Hi All,

I'm currently looking at booking a one way reward flight using qantas points from europe to MEL next year in J. This is with a partner airline (Cathay), the flight I've found has just one stopover (Hong Kong). Qantas offer this flight for 224,000 points plus taxes, however, according to the classic reward table it should cost 159,000 points plus taxes.

Given the current environment with limited seats, I'd be happy to book this seat if it's possible to get the difference back. I just wanted to know if that's possible? Or if one I book it I wont be able to ask for it back.

Thanks,

Can you post a screenshot of the result showing 224000?! I don’t know how they can get to that even if they split the booking into two.

EDITED: i see from your screenshot below the price is 224800, this looks like F connecting to J

EDIT: It's as one booking, both sectors are in J with approx 3hr stopover.

Yes, not questioning the points or price, but looking for shot showing the routing and whether there are any notes that one sector is operated in first class for example.

The price would be right if the LHR-HKG was in first, connecting to business class.

I've double checked, it's J all the way, 2 sectors. So xx_-HKG-MEL.

Do you think I have a chance of getting it refunded, as I've noticed over the last two days all other J tickets have gone except for this one day?

EDIT: Triple checked... you're correct the flight from EU to HKG is in first hence 224k, thanks for the help!

Read our AFF credit card guides and start earning more points now.

Take it if you can afford the 224,000 points burn.
Granted tax ie APD will be very pricey.
there's no difference between J and F in terms of APD. UK APD tax's only differential is between "economy" and "premium cabin" (which can include premium economy per that definition).

and you're assuming xx_ is in the UK (and not an exempt location like INV) - And @mflyer100 did mention "EU" so... :D

iirc the UK is the only country that charges extra in departure taxes based on Cabin of Service (but happy to be corrected).
