International transit time on separate tickets Johannesburg OR Tambo airport

First time to Africa next year. We have a reward flight on Air France scheduled to arrive JNB at 8.10. The only airlink direct flight to Kasane departs at 11.50. We would need to collect bags, clear immigration, find checkin, clear security and find departure gate. Based on recent flight data flight from Paris is an hour late 1-2 x a week.
Keen to hear from those with recent experience at JNB as to whether it is a place of long queues and congestion or whether it flows more freely.
We can overnight in JNB and fly to Kasane the next day if needed but preference is to travel the same day.

Having recently travelled through Jnb 3x, I would highly recommend you stay overnight at Jnb airport eg City Lodge whch is 3* hotel and a 10-15 min indoor walk from arrivals hall. Arrival immigration at Jnb can be a long wait!

Not coming off Qf 63...waited over 1 hour! Fast Track was not offered unless I missed it.

There is a dedicated F & J Fast Track Lane. Well, there was the last few times I've been there. Last visit Nov '22 and I reckon I was at the baggage carousel within 20 minutes of deplaning QF63.
