I've got a very unpleasant LAX-AKL-MEL-SYD next week with a fairly tight connection in Mel.

Given I'll be flying for 20-something hours, I really don't want to miss the Syd flight. Has anyone made a domestic connection of QF26 recently? Will my bag be tagged through to syd from lax? I know I'll need to clear customs in Mel, but is there an intl-Dom bag drop in Mel intl terminal or do I have to line up at the domestic terminal?

If you're flying Qantas for all 3 legs your bag should be tagged all the way through to SYD, but you will need to collect it at MEL, clear customs then take it to the bag drop counter at MEL domestic terminal.

It's only a couple of minutes walk from Int to dom. ;)

If its booked as a through ticket they'll just put you on a later mel-syd so connection shouldn't be a drama. Flights go every 30-60 mins.

Bags as described by Fanatic125.

Also note that at the time of day you will be transferring in MEL, missing your SYD flight is not a big issue. There are lots of flights and you will be transferred to the next available flight. So even if you arrive a few hours late into MEL or are held up by immigration, customs or quarantine, your wait at the MEL domestic terminal will be short.

Thanks, I know it won't be an issue changing flights (although last time I missed a connection in bne I waited 5 hours for a spare seat).

Was more concerned about waiting even longer before getting home and just keen to know if there's a dedicated domestic transfer counter or if I'll need to line up at domestic bag drop.
