Just looked at booking some flights to KRK for a mini-honeymoon post wedding and can't believe how much it was going to cost with BMI. 29,250 miles each and 230 GBP or so in taxes. Pass......... given how poor J is intra-Euro, I'm thinking it will be better to just pay for some whY flights and earn miles.

The taxes on most Euro fares make Euro redemptions on BD (indeed almost any FFP with few exceptions) uneconomical, in Y or J.

I once did a one-way J redemption on BD for BRU-LHR, but only because the cost (even with miles+cash) was marginally less than the cheapest Y ticket available. (It was actually "reasonably" priced for SN, but the miles+cash redemption was still cheaper).

ISTR that the new IAG Avios Euro redemptions are more circumspect about the taxes/fees/surcharges, but need to check. SK have no fuel surcharges (at least from what I last remember) on any awards.

Ended up booking EZY. Direct flight from Gatwick, much cheaper than the others and can just use our Priority Pass membership for lounge access. Will probably add on 20 quid each for speedy boarding as well. All other carriers are out of LHR and connect in at least 1 place.

Whatever works! :)

Personally when I'm in Europe I'll tend to look for cash fares rather than award redemptions. Most of my premium Euro travel are tag flights on award tix.

I still remember my LHR- MUC r/t ticket from 2009: total fare AUD180, base fare AUD10
