Hi folks
Just got back from a 6 week family holiday to the US.
Came across this site while starting the planning for the next one. Learned a little bit on the trip I didnt know before.
- We booked one of the tickets as a classic reward and paid the taxes which seemed to reduce the benefit of the points a bit. I had no idea there were other options (i.e. ASA - might not have been a valid alternative but I didnt even know they existed until I found the forum)
- We booked US internal flights through expedia (or one of those sites, cant remember exactly which one). They found some attractive prices but I didnt realise the value of using my Qantas FF status across the one world group. Ended up with Delta for a couple of flights and while they were ok, having to pay extra for baggage and having no lounge access would have made AA a much more favorable alternative.
- Balancing luggage weight maximums with a family of 4 at the airport on checkin is a nightmare, a scale will have to be purchased
- I have never made any concerted effort to accumulate points, they have simply been a byproduct of work travel. I am now trying to work out the best options to maximise points to allow us to hit the holiday trail again sooner rather than later!

Look forward to learning a lot and being involved in the forum.
Cheers

Be aware, this site is very addictive. Oh and you might even leave spouse and children alone for a day or two to chase some status on your next US trip. ;) Yupp I reckon you just might.
