Hi

Just joined - absolutely amazing resource and incredible level of support. Firstly wanted to just say and second ask a question about Qantas status credits.

I'm sure it's the dumbest question in the world but I can't see an answer in the forum threads I've looked at.

If you look for a flight say PER-SYD - it gives you direct options and also options via a third city eg PER-MEL, MEL-SYD - if you book the flight via the 3rd city do you get the status credits for 2 flights (eg 60 status credit as opposed to 40 in direct option).

If you could let me know if would be great!

Thanks

Welcome.

Status credits are applied for the sector flown, now what is a sector, in simplistic terms it's a flight or flights with the same flight number. So if you fly QF 1 to London via Dubai, that's a sector for status credit purposes. If you were two stop at Dubai or change to QF9, then it's two sectors, SYD to Dubai and then onwards? Things like Perth to Sydney will often give you extra status credits via another city, I often go via ADL ex BNE.

Welcome aboard chesraf, we have a saying here at AFF, 'why fly direct when you can connect?'.

Your example of PER-SYD v PER-MEL-SYD is the perfect example of why it is better to connect. And if eligible you also get another lounge visit (at MEL). :)

Welcome to AFF chesraf!

Why fly direct when you can connect indeed....
