I got comped DJ Plat last Sept. With current booked flights, I will need anither 140 SCs and 4 DJ sectors by Sept 1st, to retain DJ Plat.
The cheapest way I can come up with to meet this is to buy 2 return flexi fares between Syd and Cbr for 2x $390 ie $780. I will also need to take advantage of Virgin Money's 2 for 1 offer, and bring my +1 along so her SCs can pool to my account....so is it wothwhile to spend around $800 to maintain DJ Plat, rather than just dropping back to DJ Gold?

My brain says 'no' but....what do my AFF friends think?

What Platinum DJ benefits have you used, and would you continue to use if you got a new year?

I’d imagine you’ve used the upgrades, and the complimentary elite program memberships? I wouldn’t count lounge access unless you regularly take more than yourself and +1 along as Gold will still cover that.

Upgrades - good value if you use them and book flexi

Other elite status - query if it will continue

Lounges - No differences atm, will the split level SYD lounge have a Plat area?? Who knows

It's easy to extract $800 value out of the 4 complimentary upgrades but that assumes you'd want or need to. I agree about the fact there's no guarantee that the complimentary memberships will continue.

The one other thing to consider is when you will need to requalify by - as VA use a rolling 12 month membership window it may not ne necessary to rush to requal by your renewal date unless you have a lot of credits expiring soon.

But won't the OP then need to reach 1000 SCs instead of 800, if they drop back to Gold?

[-]Isn't business MEL-OOL about $399 one way? If you can get SYD-MEL//OOL-SYD for less than $380 that would be cheaper.[/-] I was wrong random date in August MEL-OOL is $515. Still looking into it flexi on that route is $209. So a flexi for 2 SYD-MEL-OOL-SYD comes out at around $650 and will gain 140SC.

But won't the OP then need to reach 1000 SCs instead of 800, if they drop back to Gold?

I'd say that would be the case.

Yes, true. Hadn't thought of that - however, if there's a reasonable amount of travel planed in coming months that could be a possible.

Once your Platinum you then drop back to Gold the year following if you haven't re-quallified for Platinum.

So if you spend the $800 to requallify for Plat. Then your Plat for next year and Gold the year following. So it's a $800 investment for 2 more years ($400 per year). (Then you'll drop to silver)

I'd spend the $800. BUT I'd wait until near Sept just incase there is a Double SC Promo, or a special sale or something.. you never know what will or won't come up.

You weren't wrong - I snapped up the $399 MEL-OOL fare in J on when it was on sale last week ;)
But it's gone now.

Thanks all for the replies. FYI, after thinking about the points made above, I had decided that DJ plat was not worth an additional $800 over DJ Gold.. but tonite I received this in the mail:

mavrick9, you are a fortune teller!!!:idea::idea::D:D

I have an offer that if before mis August I book and fly any two return Business class trips which credit to DJ/VA, then I'll retain WP for another year.

I have an early September expiry. I also have under 50 SC's.

What are the cheaper Business fares around? CBR/SYD for $399 o/w?

[edit][/edit]

Do you still need the 4 sectors or do you qualify on status credits only.
I still need 4 sectors so it will be 2 return (cheap) flights somewhere; Syd-Cbr, I suspect!

you talkin' to me [-]willis[/-]Bundy?

No mention of segments ...

Yes, Mr D,err Serfty :p

At the start of the thread,

I got comped DJ Plat last Sept. With current booked flights, I will need anither 140 SCs and 4 DJ sectors by Sept 1st, to retain DJ Plat.

So 1 round trip to Canberra would get the SCs but do you still need the segments, maybe not.

You got very lucky kpc :D
Hoping for a DJ sale now...;)

But Segments don't come into play until 28 August? Requal before then?
Are you saying that if I attain 800 SCs before 28 August without attaining the 8 sectors, I will requalify DJ Plat?

This is what my Velocity account shows:

I'm confused....

It's the last sentence that I was thinking about. Eligible sectors count from August. Does that include August or is it after August? I'm really not certain of the answer but it would be interesting if it benefited you.

The happy hour fares have been fairly good recently.

It means 25th August

6.24 We will not assess your Membership Level based on the number of Status Credits and Eligible Sectors flown until 25 August 2012. However, the number of Status Credits earned and Eligible Sectors flown during this period will be included on your account.

Anyway, with kpc's review date being 1st Sept, I would think that the sectors would be required by that date.
