Is It French?

Properties in France are very hard to sell at the moment because no one can sell theirs to buy yours so to speak. Banks in Europe are not lending much at all so it is a very difficult time to get a transaction to settle.
The Euro is around 0.84/ 0.85 so property in France and all of Europe is now looking pretty low from someone looking who has Australian dollars.
Getting there could take about 24 hours so sit back, relax and enjoy the flights.

If you can get your hands on a Tiger tank, and a Stuka, history suggests the vast majority of French people will hand over their property without any need for you to pay for it. * :p

*This stereotypical attempt at humour was brought to you by The Society for the Rememberence of French Acts of Cowardice, in association with The British Superiority Council. :p

Tony I think that was tried a couple of times before in the previous century but only with limited long term success and only if you think of 5 years as long term.
I thought someone might enjoy window shopping on a quiet AFF moment to see just how much could be saved.

One can but dream. Sadly for me unless I win the Lotto ( impossible as I've never purchased a single ticket in my life) it doesn't matter how low the Euro goes.
nice to look at though :)

We were actually looking at Real Estate Offices in France last month and were very surprised at the now affordable prices for charming French villas. At the time we thought that if we changed our current property portfolio (ie sell the House/beach house and Investment property) we could buy a villa in France, an apartment in Adelaide, and live abroad for 6 months of the year.

Pushka I have done a bit of changing as I view the exchange rate today as a golden opportunity to do something.
If you can get set I feel confident we could stop Princess Fiona needing to gamble her life away with Lotto tickets by getting her places to fly to every other month.
Prices in Paris have fallen as well as Mr Hollande wants to do a Robin Hood.

This is a seriously tempting idea. Do you get someone to look after the house in Paris for you? Short term rental? Or just keep it as a private residence?

I can see French lessons for the children in the tea leaves.
By the way I thought children do all the work and your role is to express how happy you are that it is all their fine work.
Is it "mon chateau?"......45 years since French classes sure does not help.
I have to say there are some very nice places in this site....
A serious burning of frequent flyer points will occur if you buy before the children leave you as empty nesters!

Well a family member is buying a chateau in the Biarritz region.
It is a 5 hour train ride from Paris or a one hour flight to get there.
I think my role is to keep the Frequent Flyer points rolling in as CDG is not exactly local. I think I can do that!
There are still no buyers of real estate over there so the competition on any low offer is about zero.
Our currency has dropped against the Euro but the French properties are going down in unison.

Since cousin has ( lives and works there ) a house in south of France already, I see no point in buying anything.

Some absolute bargains also at the moment on the French Riviera...10 mins from Monte Carlo and 10 mins from the Italian border. Italy also has some fantastic affordable apartments and villas with great views...I have seriously contemplated it as I'll be getting my European passport in April.

I imagine there would probably be a few bargains in Spain at the moment...

Albania probably has a few steals as well... :)

With Spain you can gain European citizenship if you buy a home over a certain price according to advertisements that are being run by their government. Spain is hoping to get their housing market out of the toilet so that a couple of their banks survive.

Gee this thread is getting legs.
I won't post the property detail until the sale is completed but it is a renovated beauty.
Pass on the vineyard....that is just a bigger version of gardening.
Great places are looking like great prices due to the sky high Aussie dollar.
