Hi Mr!,

Thank you for your recent feedback regarding Velocity Gold Membership.

Firstly let me apologise in relation to a series of emails that you would have received lately.By now it is fairly widely known that the Velocity Gold Membership upgrade email sent on Friday 13th November to more than one million Members was mistakenly sent.

It was intended for a particular group of our Silver Members who have flown so frequently in the last 12 months that they were extremely close to attaining Gold Membership. As a gesture of goodwill we upgraded these Members, and the email was intended to advise them of this upgrade.

Our team identified the email error very swiftly and intercepted it, however such is the speed of modern technology it had been automatically distributed to many of our valued Velocity Members.

We are relieved that many people immediately realised the email must have been an error as they did not fly frequently enough to qualify for Gold Membership. Many Members contacted us to advise that was the case and we greatly appreciated their response.

We of course understand that the email generated may have also confused and disappointed some Members including yourself.

Once again we apologise for any confusion caused. It was a genuine mistake and we have subsequently put in place some changes to our systems which will ensure nothing of the sort can happen again.

Regrettably, as we hope you can appreciate, we are unable to upgrade Members who received this email in error . We wish to remain fair and equitable not only to each Member who received this email, but also to our Silver and Gold Members who have progressed to their status via the frequency of their travel with us.

We do hope that we have been able to express the reasons why the original email was mistakenly sent. We certainly value your support of the Virgin Blue Group of Airlines through your membership of our Velocity program.

In relation to your current tiering you are still a Silver member until your benefits expire on 31/1/2010.Having said this you have accumulated over 20,000 status credits in the past 12 months so after your benefit expiry date you will receive an email notifying you of your tiering for the next 12 months .xx_xx_if you should earn past the 50,000 status credits before 30/11/2009 then of course you will then be counted as a gold member .It can be confusing! Please call us on 136789 if you have further questions.

Kind regards
Greg

Ok, where's the answer to my question above? A simple YES or NO would suffice....

So, with a bit of heat under my collar, here's my reply...

Hello Greg

Yes, your status system is confusing. I have been a one world emerald (qf platinum) for 8 years running of which my wife had enjoyed partner gold membership for over 3 of these years. At the beginning of this month, my membership year began and I forefitted just on 3000 qf status credits. That was 600+ status credits more than needed for my wife to keep partner gold. The first year I went to platinum with qf was when they looked at my account and comp'd me platinum xx_ status credits short, since then, qf have enjoyed a huge portion of my annual travel budget, this last financial year being in the region of 95k for me alone, I also sign off >300k p/a on employees travel. Over 80% is domestic travel.

I asked a simple question in my email to which I recieved some rubbish regarding a free gold upgrade which I didn't ask about nor infer to. After reading your email however, I would be happy to accept a gold membership if you want a bite of my travel budget.

So, a positive from this? DJ respond to their emails even if it is not with an answer to your original question....

Mr!

I'd hesitate a guess and say that anyone that has status with QF hates DJ just as much as you do.

Good luck with your enquiry!

They did reply with a load of cough, but from the underlined portion, it appears their system isn’t forward looking after you acquire enough SC’s to renew. So you shall be Silver again, but the system wont tell you that until the day after this membership period expires.

Though I guess your email was sent at a bad time-they probably assume any email from someone with silver status is in response to the mistake email hence their lengthy reply.

I think the confusion is because the membership year and end of benefits are not aligned. In my case, my membership year ends in November but benefits end in February.

So I'm guessing when you've earned the 20,000 status credits hasn't quite aligned with your membership year and you're going back to red.

The simple answer is that since you have earned over 20,000 status credits in the past year you will stay as Silver on your tiering anniversary in January next year. The extended reply to your email was simply by way of noting that you are on your way to 50,000 status credits which if achieved would then upgrade your status to gold. Apologies for any confusion.

I found the comment "I would be happy to accept a gold membership if you want a bite of my travel budget" after referring to the fact that you sign off on >$300k of company travel a little disturbing as in some companies that could be interpreted as soliciting a bribe. I'm not sure that it would be in anyone's interests for us to take you up on an offer like that.

cheers

I’m sure lots of people make similar comments to different airline programs than what they are aligned every day. It certainly can’t be the first time anyone has offered such a thing to your airline.

Yes it is rather confusing. I think the underlined bit does however, provide an answer. It seems you will expire, be reassessed and as noted from your points earned will be made silver again.

I think that Crazydave has made a prudent point. I'm sure that MunitalP was not soliciting for anything at all. But it is prudent to make sure that there can be no confusion.

I would suggest that virgin blue has only been offered such a deal by someone who is able to represent the whole company and is authorised to make such an offer.

Or represent myself with a tongue in cheek comment...

BTW - Crazydave, I did Pvt Msg you about a week ago...

I'm glad 'nearly' gold high flyers are as confused by status as I am.

So, someone didn't quite answer your question in the way that you wanted (it wasn't a direct yes/no answer, but did give you the information you needed) and you start to wave the DYKWIA card around in your reply. And then you post it here on AFF?!?

All the stuff above (and most of the rest of your reply) is completely irrelevant to the question at hand. You should have restated what you were looking for, not banged on about your alleged status with another airline.

Here some advice, which you can take or leave: change the attitude. DJ isn't Louis Vuitton - they don't need DYKWIA type characters.

Not quite like that in my experience. Let me give you two scenarios.

Scenario 1. The Procurement/Travel Manager of a large company receives a sales call from Virgin Blue. The Procurement Manager says "our company has been with Qantas for many years and as a result our senior managers and frequent travellers all have Gold status - can you status match?" Maybe or maybe not the Procurement Manager does a lot of travel and also gets Gold, but the point is they are looking after the interests of the company first.

Scenario 2. A senior manager of a company says "look after me by comp'ing me to Gold and I'll make sure my underlings fly your airline and I even might occaissionally too when I feel like it". Plainly seeking personal gain ahead of their company interests.

Obviously it's not always as clear cut as these examples, and I am not suggesting that MunilatP is in the second group - but certainly don't want to leave any room for doubt for his sake or ours.

Quote from my OP

"...After reading your email however, I would be happy to accept a gold membership if you want a bite of my travel budget..."

That's 2 posts now crazydave that you have opened the door of doubt over my tongue in cheek comment in reply to a form email DJ sent me in regards to retaining my silver status. I don't know what your agenda is, but stop it.

If the above line of mine was posted on the internet, it would have had a ;) next to it - as you can tell from the tone in which it is written and the basis of the email. You have taken a personal vendetta against me.

You PVT Msg me telling me I am wasting your time and being disrespectful because I asked exactly the same question (of you in a pvt msg) to see if you could give me the answer (about retaining silver), and here in a public forum, you are making statements regarding my moral integrity (even if it is between the lines) - who is disrespecting who dave?

Thanks for that insight... I think you missed the point however...

I had to Google DYKWIA to find the meaning - I am a nothing status on DJ so why would I wave that card (flag)?

I think that you need to re-read the emails - I did restate what I wanted and to date, still have no answer

my post #7 earlier in the thread: - "The simple answer is that since you have earned over 20,000 status credits in the past year you will stay as Silver on your tiering anniversary in January next year." I don't know how much more clearly I can say it sorry.

It appears Velocity hasn’t updated your status per your current status credit balance, but you know you have over 20,000 credits, so just wait till the reassessment date and you will be reassessed and given Silver again. :)

And thanks for the clarification Dave.
