Is it possible to change a QF booking to a Jetstar flight?

I have a Qantas Melbourne to Sydney flight that I want to change to a Jetstar option on the same day. This flight is available to book through Qantas when making a new flight booking, but not shown as an option when changing my existing Qantas flight online.

So not possible online, but does anyone know if this is possible if I call? Don't want to spend hours on hold if the answer will be a definite no.

Just a reminder that when you book Jetstar flights through Qantas, assuming you select the lowest fare option, you will get 20kg checked luggage but no other features (seat assignments or meals etc). It also seems to be common that Jetstar flights on QF codeshares cost significantly more than booked directly through JQ, even when you take into account the luggage, so it's not always the most frugal way of doing things. Jetstar also have a much higher cancellation rate, and higher loads than equivalent Qantas flights, so if/when you do get cancelled, getting rebooked on the same day can be troublesome. So I'm not sure I'd recommend this (what's your motivation? getting on the same flight as a colleague/friend?).

Yes was to change to same flight as my niece and nephew but I think we will just travel separately, it's not worth the additional cost and all the issues you mention. Have also realised that there would be no lounge access since it's a different terminal.

Also I reckon if you rebook on JQ you won’t earn SCs either?

True but it's 10 SC and 800 points? I'm not too worried about missing out on those!

Anyway I worked out with the change fee and the surcharge to book a JQ fare through QF, if I really wanted to do this it's actually cheaper just to buy a brand new ticket on JQ and throwaway my QF booking.

Assume there's no point cancelling the QF booking in advance and just being a no-show?

Says who? Tonight I earned 40 status credits on a red e-deal booked during the DSC promotion earlier in the year flying from CBR to SYD. Originally was supposed to get just 20 SCs but since QF cancelled the flight I was given rebooking options and naturally I selected CBR > MEL > SYD. I don't see why you couldn't do a routing like MEL > BNE > SYD or something perhaps a bit more circuitous, especially if QF are the ones cancelling the flight on you! Remember if QF changes its schedule you get a free flight change out of it!

For JQ that's usually the case. But again, you may want to wait and see if QF ends up cancelling the flight or changing the schedule thereby allowing you to make changes for free.

Yeah there shouldn't be a penalty there supposing it's a simple one-way (i.e. non-connecting) ticket other than the flight you forfeited (and the corresponding SCs you would've earned).
