Hi All,

I am working my way towards an Australia-Europe suites saver redemption for myself and my partner. All of my points are coming from Virgin and credit card signup bonuses.

My girlfriend has setup her VA points to transfer to me as her defacto through family pooling. But if she gets the new AMEX explorer card, the 100k bonus points would be diluted by transferring to her VA, then to my VA, then to my SQ. Is there any way for her to transfer from her SQ to my SQ directly without suffering the 1.35x points reduction? I should mention that I want to do this within the rules and don't want to risk any repercussions.

Thanks for your help!

No she cannot move the Amex Points directly to your account, but she can get her own SQ Krisflyer account and book her own Suite (or a Suite for you).

This could just be one-way for one with you redeeming for the other three one-ways for example.

I regularly book all sorts of combos with my and my wife's KF accounts. ie Sometimes use one account to book two one-ways, and sometimes one one-way on each account.

The decision for any redemption is affected by what points I have in each KF account, how old they are (ie I am mindful of the 3 year expiry on points) and what points I have in various Credit Card Accounts (e My KF is easy to top up as I have a large Amex MR Warehouse, whereas my wife's account has lesser means to earn new points and so I am mindful of drawing down her points whenever it reaches a useful redemption level ).

The recent devaluations of Citibank and Westpac have for example caused some lump sums to be deposited in KF that will need managing.

There is no direct way to transfer from her KF account to your KF account

You can however request up to 50K point transfer per calendar year from MR Gateway to MR Gateway for no fee. Or $5/1000points from MR Gateway to MR Ascent. This would mean you would need to set up a MR Gateway/Ascent account (ie have a Amex credit card). This could work by doing a Dec and Jan 50K/50K transfer out.

Why not book one way on her account, one way on your account? That way you don't have to worry about fees from Amex, and can still achieve it by moving velocity points between your accounts as needed.

That's what I do - saves the headache of trying to get them all in the once place.

Our redemptions come from a combination of Velocity, fly buys, AMEX and Krisflyer points and family pooling. The only thing that needs collecting in one place are the AMEX MR Gateway points. I don't think there are any fees as we both have Gateway accounts (from the new explorer card w/ bonus). I see the benefit in doing a one way from each account, but because of velocity pooling it's easier to get them all together in the one place, for us anyway.

Did you end up doing the transfer between Gateway, and was there any cost to do so?

Just put the form in yesterday, will update with an outcome when it's finalised. I don't think there will be a cost as gateway to gateway. No ascent accounts or anything like that.

Just some info for those looking to transfer from spouse Amex account into your own FF account.

Just completed transfers and booked redemption's on both SQ and Asia miles in the past week.

They were gateway points and just linked the wife's gateway account to my SQ/AM accounts. Transferred the minimum of 5000 initially and once cleared followed up with 113k

Won't that throw up a flag on SQ/AM systems? I always understood the names on the accounts had to match.

FYI - I've had a amex gateway to my spouse's atrway transfer today. Took about a week to be processed from lodgement. Aiming to do another 50k in new calendar year to warehouse them all in her account. Very easy process, no cost.

This was successful, took about 2 weeks to come through. No fees for gateway to gateway.
