I have opened an Asia Miles account in my husband's name and we are planning to transfer his Amex points into it in order to fly from HKG to LHR in Sept/Oct 2014. There will be 4 of us - 2 adults, 2 kids and we have enough points for the return flight in Business (120,000 per person).

When I looked into Asia Miles initially, it seemed like there was a good deal of availability on both the HKG-LHR and the LHR-HKG legs for 4 people. Now however, as it is getting closer to the dates I can actually book, there appears to be very little availability. For example, in Sept 2014, there are hardly any flights that have availability from LHR to HKG.

From experience, is it likely that we will get 4 seats in Business on the above flights, leaving last week September, returning mid October??

Otherwise, where would you recommend we transfer the Amex MR rewards points to, for 4 Bus class flights Asia to Europe?

4 J reward seats are not that easy to achieve from my experience. You can try Malaysia Airlines (KUL-LHR) or Virgin Atlantic (HKG-LHR) which both are Amex MR partners.

Cheers,
K.

agree 4 seats seems unlikely - you may need to split your group across more than 1 flight.

also more availability opens up 1 month prior - keep a close eye on it

Tried booking 2 F class tickets from London to HKG on Cathay pacific in Jan 2014, and they only release the seats just 1 week prior to departure (provided no one has booked any seats on F class for that particular flight). I know they still got at least 4 F class seats for that day, but they simply won't allow for any redemption at this point.

I don't think Asia Miles is as genuine as Kris Flyer redemption. Bugger it!
