Is QF now practising point of sale discrimination?

I am trying to book SIN-FRA-SIN on QF5/6 for my parents, out 24/1, in 14/2. They're waitlisted for both segments in D.

However I noticed that EF is showing D9 for QF6 FRA-SIN. A call to QF also revealed that there's availability in D.

I enquired about this with the TA in Singapore who was adamant that it is D0 on her system (Abacus) and that QF has not "released the seats over here."

I didn't think that QF practised POS discrimination. :( Or is there an alternative explanation?

QF can't clear the waitlist either even though they can see D availability as they are unable to "take over" the booking. Unfortunately the TA is a family friend and the folks insist on booking through her.

If you ask the TA to remark the booking that he/she permits QF to make changes as requested, they may do it.

I have done this in the past successfully.

Kewl will do that - thanks for the tip. :D She did say that she's going to liaise directly with QF at some stage so hopefully HK2 appears soon.

She also tried the BA codeshare and same deal - wouldn't even let her waitlist.

This is the first time I've experienced POS issues with QF though (unless there's some other explanation), usually it's with BA and from the rants on FT - CX.

It's been going on for a long time, in 2005 I experienced similar with E/F showing D4 for a MEL-LHR segment but the CX agent in CMB seeing D0 and being unable to book it.

I fixed it by going SYD-LHR on the same date (with a $79 red e-deal MEL-SYD) - this was back in the days when surface segments were not included in the limits.

BA does not allow waitlisting on D; only full fare classes are permitted for listing on BA

Thanks serfty. That confirms my suspicion then. I hope it doesn't become as rampant as BA and CX.

It's the D2LD QF/BA SIN-FRA return fare, SGD6582 all inclusive. They actually live in Singapore so this isn't some whacky scheme of mine to get them to start overseas. :p It is much cheaper than the flights to LHR as the lowest available fare to LHR is over 3 grand more!

Dave- yes I'm aware of the inability to waitlist on BA discount fare buckets, just thought I'd point out that extra 'complication' with BA.

Thats a pretty good price, I jumped on Galileo and checked it and I came up with AU$5326 (which I think is exactly SGD6582) plus taxes of AU$326.10 which is confirmable.

If you need any help with it if they cant confirm it, let me know.

I've noticed QF have now started limiting some of their fares in regards to POS as well. For the past couple of years I've been able to buy fares originating in CGK from Australian travel agents, but looks like they've pulled everything lower than K class fares from sale outside of Indonesia now (glad I already had my forthcoming flights booked - I certainly don't look forward to dealing with QF in Jakarta again).

Pity AY stopped flying to SIN. Though they still do have a package price in Biz ex SIN to Europe - Just means a transfer in BKK and HEL. thought the biz price is a LOT lower than BA/QF. Ask a local SIN travel agent.

Happy wandering

Cheers Fred. :)

They're actually connecting on to MAD - and are already grumbling about having to transfer in FRA/LHR. Can't imagine the reaction if I put them via those funky places. :p

They're confirmed in C on the LHR flights in the meantime.

Any ideas on rough price from SIN Fred? And who is SIN-BKK with, CX?

I just priced BKK-HEL-LHR on AY J in late August for AU$2900, add $1000 for MEL-BKK on BA/QF in Y and that's a pretty good deal, $3900 all up.

Compares to:
MEL-HKG-HEL-LHR AY Y at $3050 (so a 1k to do the longest bits in J)
MEL-HKG-HEL-LHR AY J at $7733 (also not a bad price)
QF Y+ MEL-SIN-LHR is $5350.

Hmmm could looking this stuff up this stuff all day hey.

SIN-BKK-HEL->most of Europe is SGD4200 ++ in I class
SGD6219++ in D

SIN--> BKK on CX
