Is there any harm in hoping for a schedule change for a fee free refund?

Hey team. I have Jan QF flights DFW-MEL on points I want to cancel as I’ve found something better with UA/VA. Is there any harm in holding onto the QF flights and hoping there’s a schedule change to trigger a points free cancellation? I know it’s not much but if I don’t have to pay it then it’s a bonus. The only downside I can see is it ties up those points until I cancel the flights? We don’t have any other plans for them atm. Am I being a tightarse?

well if you don't need the points then sure, but a schedule change on QF22 is probably pretty unlikely imo. Still no harm in waiting up to 24h prior if need be and cancel and wear the penalty.
