Ideas to access Qantas Club using silver/guest pass/status match?

Hi all,

My wife and are travelling PER-SYD-LAX with the domestic leg on Virgin and onward flight on Qantas. Since I'm Gold on Virgin I was wondering if I'll have access to the Virgin lounge in Sydney prior to to my Qantas flight? More specifically, what is the deal with those self-serve kiosks...if I swipe my Gold card will it just let me in anyway even if I don't have an onward flight (not holding out much hope on that one)?

Alternatively, I got a complimentary Qantas Club invite when I was downgraded to Silver, but it claims it's only valid for one person. If I play dumb when I enter QC will they let my wife in with me? Or is there any other ways to get her in with me? Does anyone have any ideas? FYI I just tried the Marco Polo club status match and was only offered silver (aka OW ruby) which wouldn't grant me access to Qantas Club, so that's already off the table.

As Velocity Gold, you will be able to access the VA DOMESTIC lounge in SYD, though you will need to collect your baggage from VA and check it in with QF at the int'l. VA don't have their own lounge at the int'l, they just use other lounges, which don't have arrivals access benefits. As such, your use of the VA lounge would likely be quite short, unless you're willing to go to and from the int'l terminal (and have the time to do this as well as clear emigration and security). You can *try* with the QF lounge pass, but chances are they will only let one of you in

Arrivals (aka 'after flight') access is available to Gold and Platinums on presentation of a same day boarding pass on VA.

Either present your BP to the lounge agents or just swipe your gold card upon entryand enter 1 guest to the T2 lounge - IME you'll be fine.

(With the QP pass, guests are normally not permitted)

Just make sure you head down, over and up to T3 for the Bus at least one hour before the scheduled departure of your flight to LAX.
