Just wondering if this is a currency conversion mistake or is this typical of Silkair Y class prices? Silkair AU website prices.

I noticed this on (I think) Darwin flights as well. SilkAir was hugely expensive... like in the thousands of dollars.

Dunno why.

Yep - the outbound from SIN flight goes via DRW and obviously Silkair are not allowed to sell seats on the DRW-CNS sector, its also a very unsociable departure time from SIN as well, and I think the frequency is only 3 days per week so not many seats.

Interesting that the prices seem a bit more 'realistic' on ITA Matrix. Do people think the $8659 was SGD not AU$ maybe?

No - I have a few other options and alternative places to choose from but will be on the phone to Silkair/Singapore Airlines reservations to try to get some sensible numbers out of them. Really still at the window shopping stage and one option is to stay home and travel elsewhere/another time. At those prices I can't imagine the seats are selling like hotcakes.....

If I wanted to spend $8K I'd be looking at J class or at least PE round the world fares - not 6hrs on a 737.

It may be that many of the fare classes are reserved for packaged travel-agent only deals (especially ex-SIN). In leisure markets, I'd imagine this is common as the airline would've worked with the airports and agents to come to a deal to ensure a certain load factor. It one sense, they could be viewed as semi-charter flights. It's a shame, as I'm sure there is a percentage of the local market which would use these for outbound travel.

I think maybe similar to the JQ deal to China... priced so expensively ex Australia that it's probably never intended for sale here.

but it might be interesting to see the terms of the agreement for SilkAir flying the route. If they have to make seats available for sale under that agreement, this would hardly qualify. On the other hand given the route - there may be no restrictions.

The current CX deal from OZ to HKG is the cheapest Ive seen them offer in years, about half what they normally charge.

Just to get closure on this for anyone who was wondering, I just got off the phone from Silkair - they were quite polite and the phone agent had to go and check, but those prices on the Silkair AU website were correct, that is the fully flexible full blown highest fare class ticket price and also possibly the most expensive 6 hours you would ever spend in a B737 Y class seat. Which would suggest either the loads are very good or as others have alluded to - possibly inventory being held for tour groups or something. I wonder if anyone actually pays those sort of Y prices?
