Basically the only reason to stay here is to visit the battlefields of the Anglo-Zulu war.My interest is that our son has the same name as one of the VC winners at Rorke's Drift.
The place certainly stands out,the rooms are comfortable but you are in a remote area.Basically no internet, power that can fail but despite that great quality food and wines. The rooms are comfortable-

Rock Dassies.
They have a resident guide-Rob Gerrard.Born in South Africa and ex British Army.He is passionate about both the Zulu and Boer wars.More of that will come in my TR.So if you have an interest in history this is worth a visit.

I've stayed there as well. I thought Isandlwana Lodge was wonderful. It actually reminded me of being in an Agatha Christie movie - you're there, pretty much cut off from the rest of the world, with a small group of people, and everyone eats together (they try to move people around to different tables for different meals) and gets to know a little about the others as time goes on.

When I was there, it was actually before they had mains power. All electricity was from the Lodge's generator - which went off promptly at 11pm each night. They gave us candles, in case they were necessary, but it meant there was this mass exodus from the dining room/library/lounge at about 10.50pm.

I'm pleased to see Rob Gerrard is still there. I thought he was great, and so typically a British army officer - perfect for what you are there for.
