Just got an unrelated email from the ITA Airways Volare loyalty program (where I hold Premium status) and noticed this fine print at the bottom of the email:

The present edition of the Volare program is valid as of 15 October 2021.
The expiration date is 15 October 2024, unless extended.

What's this about?

When was the last time you earned to Volare loyalty program? With a flight?

Qualifying points expire at the end of the current year. Non-qualifying points: These represent the points balance that can be used to redeem flight rewards in Cash&Points mode and are valid until the end of the Volare program.

Last flight credited to Volare was in February of this year.

I recall that something similar used to happen with Alitalia's MilleMiglia program "expiring" every few years, but I wasn't a member of that and didn't follow it closely.

Hopefully everyone who status matched will become Miles and More Senator when LH completes their purchase :)

Alitalia's program, Mileage Miglia, did the same every year or two, but it seemed to be perenially renewed. In fact it outlasted the airline.

Email received today from ITA Airways:

What a ridiculous loyalty program...

Though I have been auto extended , does having this status help travel within Asia in anyway ? It was a free status match hence opted-in but never got to use the benefits , if at all they exist. Thanks

I flew on AZ twice but probably got a good 5-6 of these emails - I am guessing it is some EU/Italian legal requirement with how loyalty programs work? Then again, haven't seen it elsewhere except AZ myself (both old and new).
