Hi all!!

I'm new here :)

Just wanted to share my excitement... After doing a return flight ADL-SYD-LAX, I now have enough Qantas Frequent Flyer points to redeem my first free flights!!

Need to be in Melbourne for an appointment in May, so have booked ADL-MEL return and haven't had to pay a cent!! I even offset my carbon

I was pondering whether to redeem my points for gift cards, but was better economics to redeem them for the flights.

I managed to accrew around 17,000 points from the US trip... I was only a few thousand points off being able to fly business for one leg of the trip (I've only ever flied economy).

I was also considering paying for this ADL-MEL trip, but the competition (Virgin Blue) were priced similarly to Qantas or more expensive!

Congratulations on your first redemption. I'm hoping you booked it as an any seat award (ASA) to get some points and status credits back from that flight.

ASAs can be great, specially if you'd like to expeirence Business (J) and don't want to fork out the cash, or are a few status credits (SC) short of your next qualification level.

Welcome and well done Jordan.

Now you are on the FF points treadmill, you will find it will morph into the status credit treadmill if you are not careful ;)

Spruse, 500k, I'm impressed! I get up 200-300k and have to spend them, I can't help myself

As mentioned previously Jordan, most find the best use of FF points is for upgrading economy flights (Y) to business flights (J) - the letters are the norm on this forum

Cheers

Two years ago I redeemed our first awards flights for a return trip to Europe - the return leg in Premium Economy. Now I'm hooked to gleen any extra bonus points as we wish to book an around the world deal sometime soon. Should have enough points after a return trip to Europe later in the year.

Would love to use points for an upgrade but don't think I will have any chance as a lowly bronze.

But the thrill of your first QFF points flight is special.

Enjoy!

Booked my first Oneworld Y award the other week.

Despite the 5 stopover limit, I managed to push the tix up to 15sectors taking a number of one night "transits" at various cities in the USA

Great value for about $900 in taxes :)

Wow guys, way to hijack an "I'm new and excited" thread into a d*ck measuring contest.

Welcome to AFF jordan85, congrats on your redemption and may their be many more.

Point taken, relevant posts moved to a new thread of their own:

Although, perhaps your comment implying the measuring instrument was a little [-]sexist[/-] stereotypical. :p
