I'm doing a SC run in late July that sees me flying economy out of Melbourne, and then business for two other flights later the same day.

Assuming I use OLCI and print the BPs for my J segments before arriving at Melbourne airport, will I have access to the J lounge at MEL before my initial economy flight? i.e. is domestic J lounge access contingent on your NEXT flight being in J, or on ANY flight the same day being in J?

Also, how does it work in reverse? On the return leg of my SC run I'm in J until ADL, then on a J* flight from ADL-MEL - will I be able to access the QP in ADL as I've flown in J that day, or will they not allow me in because my NEXT flight isn't in QF J?

Thanks!

I'm surprised no one has answered. You might need to supply some more details as there are different access rules depending on the type of flight.

For qantas international business then access is allowed to both the QP and J lounge "if connecting to or from a qantas international flight on the same day"

So if you are connecting to an international J flight after your Y flight from MEL then you should get access.

If you fly into ADL in international J, QF82?, then you should also get access. However, if it is domestic J then the next onward flight rule applies.

See www.qantas.com.au/travel/airlines/qantas-club-lounge-access/global/en

I would think if you've got a domestic J flight later in the day after a Y flight you'd have J lounge access. However going from J to JQ you'd have no access before the JQ flight (unless you're WP in which case arrivals access is permitted).

It's all domestic - Y to ADL, J from ADL-TSV (doing a SC run).

Thanks for the link / info - however, the link is a bit ambiguous. Re J lounge access, in the Domestic Business Class row, it says:

Next onward flight that day must be on a Qantas marketed and operated flight.

So it stipulates that your next onward flight that day must be on Qantas, but it doesn't say if the next flight must be in Business. I guess you could infer this from the fact it's in the "Business Class" row of the table, but I don't think it's entirely clear TBH.

Thanks for the info. Are you certain about this? Or just an educated guess?

OK - thanks again for the info.

If all domestic then I think access as samh004 has outlined. You could probably sweet talk your way in at MEL on the basis of the later J flight. But don't be disappointed if they say no due to the next onward flight thing.

IME the ADL are pretty strict so I don't think you'll get in there. If the flight is at night, sorry I'm not sure hat time it is, the ADL lounge closes pretty early anyway - after the last QF flight even with a couple of JQ flight still to go.

I agree the table isn't the best but I would infer that you need to be flying J due to the row label.

When are you doing this again? In July? What dates? (sorry if I should know this but don't)

I think the others have it summed up well. MEL you can probably get in by flashing a QF boarding pass with business on it. Dunno if I'd risk it into the J-lounge however. Once when I was in a similar situation to you I accessed the CBR J-lounge flying out on a Q400 followed by a J flight. So it definitely can work.

ADL is quieter and they will look at the boarding pass more than a glance. It's not the worst airport to be stuck outside the QF club. Great views and free internet. If you're flying around that day then you'll be on JQ775 that leaves close to the curfew. The QP will definitely be closed as Medhead mentioned. It's usually opened until the last QF flight just before 8pm. Varies a little. I have had the evening ADL-BNE flight delayed a couple hours and they remained opened for us. When our flight was called they also announced the lounge was closed and everyone else had to leave. Vice-versa, the MEL QP remains open for the last JQ MEL-ADL flight (but not the J-lounge)!

If it is JQ775 ignore my other question. I was just going to check if I was also flying that day and could guest you in to the lounge. But if it'll be closed there isn't much point.

Thanks for the extra info everyone.

On the way out it sounds like I'll just have to try at MEL and see how I go - might just be up-front with them and see what the answer is. Will post back here for future reference, in case anyone else is wondering the same thing in the future. On the return leg it sounds like the ADL QP will be closed for most of the time I'm there anyway, so it's a bit of a moot point.

It is JQ775 - thanks for the thought anyway though, appreciate it :-)
