The only time I flew J* was when QF was grounded and then when I missed my original flight, they put me on a J* service from PER to MEL.

Looking at booking J* to DPS from MEL. They seem to sell a lot of different types of add-ons (bundles) etc..

  • Do I get any bonuses as a QF WP If I purchase the $50 bundle?
  • I want to book two people on the same itinerary but I only want the $50 bundle that gets QF points for myself. Is this possible on the same booking?
  • What is the Jetstar rewards voucher? (this is the other option if you don't want QF points)
  • Will I be able to upgrade to Star class with QF points?

Anything else I should know? Thanks for any comments/assistance.

-I believe you will get status bonus for being a WP, 100% bonus. http://www.qantas.com.au/fflyer/dyn/partners/airline-earn

-With J* when you book if you add a bundle it will apply to all pax on the one PNR, in other words you'll have to buy 2 bundles.

-Not 100% but I guess you can either use this for future flights, or possibly on-board?
  • Will I be able to upgrade to Star class with QF points?
    -No you cannot.

  • If there is not much of a price difference I would suggest taking the QF codeshare on EK to KUL, then an MH flight from KUL to DPS. At least this way you'll get full service all the way and points/SC's.etc.

Thanks for your response! I don't have a J* master card or anything so will have to pay the fees and didn't want to do it twice but I suppose I will have to as they also have fees for paypal!

Was looking at J* because

- It's non-stop and the flight timings suit us.
- Haven't been on a 787 yet

If you haven't booked it already then you can use Direct Debit or Poli to avoid the fees:

"For bookings made in Australian Dollars (AUD), Jetstar waives this Booking and Service Fee for all bookings paid for using Jetstar MasterCard, Jetstar Platinum MasterCard, Jetstar Vouchers, POLi and Direct Deposit (Direct Deposit is available up to 14 days prior to departure only). A Booking and Service Fee of $8.50AUD per passenger per domestic fare and $8.50-$12.50 per passenger per international fare applies for bookings completed with any other payment type. We actively encourage our customers to complete their bookings using one of the payment methods for which no Booking and Service Fee applies."

If DPS is you final destination, try getting a TA to ticket you on QF MEL-SIN and then QR SIN-DPS.

Wow didn't know QR had tag flights sin-dps! You learn something new everyday

I don't get it. Why turn a 6 hr flight into a 12+ hr marathon and spend hundreds of dollars more for an extra 20SCs and a "free" meal and drink? Getting to SIN/KUL is no longer cheap with .br dead and QF doesn't really award points on MH & QR. I'd personally stick with the direct flight.

I went with VA, MEL-DPS direct.. albeit on a 737. They were cheaper than J* by $200 per passenger. I have no status with VA but am EY gold. Will that get me into some sort of lounge? Also I purchased the tix using expedia.com.au. Will I be able to upgrade these using VA points? (I haven't got enough at the moment but can potentially transfer from CC's)

Forget JQ just to get SC and points and give Garuda a go. They regularly have "business promo" (J) airfares for MEL to DSP return for $1362 per person. I looked at the Garuda website for early May and they have plenty of seats available at that price.

I went with VA because I may have a chance of getting an upgrade with points? Never flown Gardua but read somewhere on AFF that they often cancel and/or merge flights if loads are light.. can't risk that! Would love to try their 77W though :)
