Hi all,

Long time reader, first time poster.

I have a flight in October for Sydney to HK in J. I put in a J to F upgrade as well. I was a Gold FF, but recently dropped back to Silver.

What are the chances of silver being granted a J to F points upgrade? Any experience?

When I put in the request, I had the required 50k points, but has since spent it on another J flight so now need another 20k. I know you can top up your points when you redeem an award, but can you do that for a points upgrade? If I have decent chance, I'd seriously consider forking out $500 odd for the points for the J to F upgrade.

Thanks so much!!

Welcome aboard Charmanda, re your points upgrade, well as the old saying goes you've got to be in it to win it but sadly I think you've only got two chances.

Still J is a great ride and well worth it at least once.

I'll certainly still be in it.. But if there's decent chance then I'll try and find the extra points I need. I guess I can leave it then.

Yes J is nice. I've done it many time for work. First time I've done it for personal and certainly looking forward to it. :)

What day is the flight, a quick glance at the loads may provide an answer if there is close to a full F cabin allready.

It's Friday 4 October. QF127

But if the loads are light, does silvers like me stand a chance?

As far as I know, you must have sufficient Points for the upgrade at least a few days prior to the flight, and that you can't top them up with cash. If you don't have enough points, ask a relative etc to transfer some points to you, and if you don't get the upgrade you can always transfer them back. But keep in mind that you can only do one points transfer out per 12 months, and with a limit of 100k.
