My parents recently travelled to London via HND with JAL (got some reasonably priced tickets on a 9-across 777 with a decent layover in Tokyo - which I would highly recommend except for the 14.5 hour distance HND/LHR due to having to avoid Russia!)
Now they are getting a little older, and had a 24hr layover in HND on their way up, but still found the journey extremely challenging due to the length. They are currently booked to travel straight through on their way back with a short (2hr) layover in HND, but are very worried that my dad (who has been unwell) isn't going to fare well on a journey of this length. I think they thought they would be fine, but after doing the flights up, have realised that was maybe a little optimistic.
As such I'm going to try and get them a layover in HND on their way back. I've spoken with JAL who were very lovely but advised there's no fare class availability on the next day's flight so a move is not possible. Upgrading is also out of the question unfortunately.
NOW it's a long story, but I can get very cheap flights on the Qantas Group (used to work there a long time ago). As such, what we're thinking is that mum and dad catch the flight LHR-HND, then do not get their connecting, spend the night, and then I fly them home on QF.
The agent on the phone said this was fine, they just need to advise the ground staff in LHR that they want to collect their bags on arrival in HND. Does anyone have any experience with this? I'm worried it's going to seem like they're skiplagging, which they're not - but this is the only way I can think to get them home safely.
Thanks
