Hi guys

I’m flying to Manchester from Melbourne on Japan Airlines, codeshare with Finnair via Helsinki. If I check in at Melbourne through JAL check in, will they provide my boarding passes all the way through to Manchester? Has anyone had experience of this with JAL?

I know this isn’t strictly a qantas issue, but thought as they’re part of the one world alliance, some of the QFF’ers may have had experience with this?

Thanks guys!

Yes, your bags will be checked through and you will have boarding passes issued to your final destination.

You know, or are you aware JAL has to go up to HND first, then off to HEL then MAN.

Yes thanks AP (PS. Love your name!)
It’s actually NRT then change to Finnair through to HEL and MAN. It was the cheapest/best timing for a business class flight with only 3 days notice (flying back for a funeral sadly)

JAL should check you through even with different PNRs. JL will still check across different PNRs to other oneworld flights.

Normal (outside North America) I-I transit process. Will need to scan NRT-HEL boarding pass to enter security.

Ooh...
Lukcy you told me that, must be getting old.
Just realised that QF is the one that flies from Au to HND most of the time.

Thanks guys. While we’re here has anyone flown JAL business from Aus to NRT? Any comments?

You're lucky you aren't starting with a JL domestic flight.

Their domestic boarding passes are a different size and format to the normal boarding pass card stock. If you check in at a JL domestic port, they'll issue the international passes on the domestic stock.
A couple of years ago, I checked in at ITM (Osaka-Itami, domestic only airport) for ITM-HND-SIN-MEL-CBR. ITM-SIN was JL operated, SIN-CBR QF operated, but HND-SIN was QF coded.
When I got to the QF SIN lounge, they were quite confused by the JL domestic stock boarding pass. When I got to the MEL T1 desk to drop bags after immigration, they couldn't work out what I was giving them. They ended up reprinting the MEL-CBR pass to normal QF stock.
