Having just returned from a fantastic trip overseas with almost all flights booked on ASA J, booking them the day they are released and jagging the lesser amount of points flights. I was hoping to do the same again for next September and take the elderly parents with us this time but came home to find out about the Qantas & Emirates deal and have not been able to see any of those ASA flights where if you are lucky, you can book an ASA flight at significantly lower points. This seems to have stopped since the deal was announced.
I normally pay for a cheap fare from Perth to Singapore and then apply for an upgrade to J using points which I have been lucky enough to get the majority of times., then book ASA J Singapore to London & if we go on to Europe from there we get a cheap airfare from British Airways.
Our plan was to do the same again for next September ending up in France.
So I was wondering does anyone have any suggestions of how we can now do this flight?
Hubby is Platinum, I am Gold & 2 of the 3 parents are Bronze. I was thinking about just booking a J classic award for the 3 parents(although these also seem to be in short supply) and then paying for Hubby & I.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

cant see why it would change - getting availability on an EK codeshare flight would be the unanswered question.

btw its a codeshare not a merger

I suspect it will be like it always has been - only on QF metal.

Plus the codeshare agreement only comes into effect in April 2013, and only if approved.
And if it comes into effect Qantas wont be flying to London from Singapore any longer, though you could fly another airline.

You could probably fly a cheap fare to Dubai, and then ASA from there. The flights might not be loaded yet, explaining why you can't see anything worth booking.

Have just booked us a QF6 JASA at classic award level for next August, let's see what happens with that one :D

*edit*
QF is interesting in seat allocation, the JASA's are in separate bookings but we got assigned seats next to each other...

Well I found some cheap JASA's from Singapore to Frankfurt for September next year, so booked 3 of us, Hubby has bought a Premium Economy and requested an upgrade and also got another J seat with a classic award for the father in law. After having done that I did a bit more reading on the Qantas/ Emirates codeshare only to see that Qantas is not going to be flying Sin to Frankfurt anymore due to lack of numbers. Wonder why they are still offering flights though? It seems a bit like false advertising.
I think for now it is just going to be a waiting game until April next year and will hold off booking any further flights.

I have booked FRA to SYD so I am actually hoping they rebook me on a FRA DXB SYD, will get a flat bed instead of a sloping one and get to try out EK J... well not sure how they are going to handle it but they will have to do something :D

Until the code share is approved they have to keep selling as per normal I guess

AJ said nothing would change. We would get the best of both programs and the higher deal wins out.

So it's an interesting position as we can currently JASA to LHR
