Jetstar 1 Million Seat Sale

Just venting my disappointment here again at Jetstar and their lack of consideration for Melbourne passengers. Sale announced tonight Syd - Hnl only $190 plus taxes - nothing for the Melbourne passengers cost is still $524 plus taxes..makes a differencce of over $1000 for two people - called them to enquire about domestic flights to and from Mel-Syd on my flight dates but was told would only be from Avalon to Sydney and then extra baggage allowance you rey bring home ( 2 x 32Kg bags) would have to be paid for as the Domestic Segment is only 20Kg...am I being unreasonable? Hopefully they will announce a Mel - Hnl sale soon.

If you look carefully there are a few MEL (Tullamarine) / SYD JQ flights on sale. B ok them separably. Ot travel Qantas, Virgin etc.

Note there are very good domestic sales on currently for the same dates as the international JQ sales.

Don't like to rub it in... But I just booked SYD-HNL-SYD for 4 people in January for $3000. It'll work out cheaper than a family holiday on the Gold Coast.

Did the same for April, 2 people for just over $1500. Must give JQ some credit, this sale (although its not super-cheap) has been run fairly well.

Remember JQ don't fly MEL-HNL anymore (or won't for much longer), so they're less likely to give a cheap sale fare if it involves a QF domestic connection.

Remember though that your luggage allowance to the USA is 2 x 32 kilo bags but if you fly a domestic segment from Perth-Syd return then you are only allowed to cart 1 x 20kgs...I guess that's my dilemma, we love to shop over there ( we have been many times ) and bring back heaps but no good if I cannot get it from Sydney to Melbourne. Not necessarily; your itinerary may have several different bookings or PNR's. Your PER-SYD flight does not have to be the same booking as your SYD-US flight to get the 2 PCE rules applting.

When checking in for PER-SYD, you must be able to show your itinerary includes travel to the US. You should have all documentation with you when checking-in at PER, most specifically this include all ticket numbers.

If the Australian domestic flight and the flight to/from the USA are on the same ticket, then the baggage allowance for the entire journey will be 2 pieces.

NM Thanks and OK..BUT how do you do that..do I book through a travel agent or through Jetstar on line, If I say I am travelling Mel - Hnl then they want to charge me the the $524 plus taxes...how do I book two sep flights and make sure they are on the same ticket and ensure the savings - only have to the 22nd to secure these seats under these sales conditions, Any help appreciated.

If you book two flights separately on the web site then they will be different tickets. You need to book as one itinerary, so needs to be MEL-HNL. There is generally a downside to chasing the cheapest fares with low-cost carriers.

I'm looking into the exact details; but IIRC, it is along the lines of being a part of a legal agreement that airline operators have to agree to when obtaining approval to transport PAX to/from the USA etc.

That is the Qantas baggage policy for travel to the USA. Are you sure that Jetstar has the same policy regarding separate tickets?

I don't think JQ have a choice, I get the impression that carriers are forced to allow 2 PC - see post #11.

Then again, Try telling that to to the MEL check-in agent if they decline on the day of travel. :-|

Thanks everyone for your assistance with this, have tried calling Jetstar again this morning but could not get through, was going to call Qantas or try a travel agent this morning..will keep an eye on this site today for any further responses or help that anyone can offer ...It's about a $1000 saving out of Sydney instead of Melbourne and would need to factor in the return domestic segments but there seems to be a few of them around on the days and times I need for less than $100 each way.

just to advise have spoken to a fabulous guy at Qantas, advised me to book a Q flight domestic to Sydney return ( not JS) and Qantas will link the bookings all the way through including the luggage to ensure we are entitled to the full baggage allowance..problem solved I hope will let you know how I go once all flights are booked.

By this page: Jetstar - Recommended Connection Times and Baggage Transfers , Jetstar indicate they will interline QF->JQ in SYD, but to allow at least 105 minutes each way to connect. Note there is a ^^ proviso and that is:

^^ For baggage to be through checked (transferred) your flights must be in the same booking (ie. Have the same booking reference number).

It may be that by linking the bookings it looks to to the check-in agents and downline staff to be the one PNR.

None of this really relates to whether you can have 2 pieces to/from the USA ex MEL.

I am over this..and you maybe right just booked the flights Q Mel - Syd return and the Syd - Hnl, called Qantas back cannot find the guy I spoke to and the girl there did not want to know...back to square one I think but now I have the flights..will call again and get them linked and just see what happens !!
