Last Friday I was booked on the 18:50 JQ service from PPP to BNE. Received a text from JQ at about 16:00 advising that the flight was going to depart at 22:50.

We were already committed to arrive at the airport so we ended up with a long wait at the airport. On check in we were given an $8 voucher for use at the airport kiosk. Enough to buy a pie and drink.

The four hours delay was due to an earlier aircraft problem at Launceston.

We spent this time at the airport enjoying some great spirited general conversation with other travelers and was actually good fun. A few trafellers were concerned about connection times at BNE and these appeared to have been addressed by JQ.

In the end, the flight departed at 10:30 and arrived into BNE at midnight.

Speaking with the cabin crew they were polite but short. They had been called in to operate the BNE-PPP-BNE flights. A couple of them had to back up and be back at the airport the following morning.

In summary, I would have preferred no delay. For a total flight cost of about $70 and avoiding a 15 hour drive I was still pretty happy and I met some nice fellow travelers.

Nice story.
I am booked to fly on JQ from Avalon to Sydney with my wife and young daughter in early April to celebrate my 40th birthday. I had no problem with JQ considering the total return fare for 3 people was $310 and that Avalon is a 40-minute drive compared to the 80-minute drive ti Tullamarine, plus the fact you can park and just walk into the terminal at Avalon.
The moral of the story. As long as you get there in one piece with a good attitute, everything will be OK.
Thanks again for sharing your story.

Sounds like it was handled about as well as it could have been, short of a replacement plane and crew being available at PPP. Sure they could have given you more $ for a 4 hour delay...particularly when there probably wan't much of an choice of food
