I am flying jetstar to Japan, am I eligible to purchase the oneworld visit japan pass based on my tix with JQ.

Thanks

But its a subsidiary of Qantas, so doesn't it 'inherit' OW status

Not quite. For example, you can't check bags from QF through to JQ. They are run as independent companies. About booking and FF points etc..the arrangements are directly between Qantas and Jetstar, not through any connection with OneWorld.

ok... thanks for that.

I am flying in to KIX and I need to get to tokyo the same night. I was thinking to buying a dom tix to HND.
My JQ flight arrives at 8:30pm and there are 2 JL HND flights at 9:30 and 10:10 pm. Is 1hr enough connection time to book the 9:30 flight or should I play it safe and go for 10:10 flight.

I can't say anything specific about KIX, Jetstar or JAL (although the train at that airport is pretty useless in my opinion).

But as a general statement, if transferring from Intl to Domestic, I'd make sure I left plenty of time, upto two hours, considering you will need to clear immigration, collect bags, perhaps transfer across terminals and then check in again within the time limits your domestic flight prescribes. Moreso if the flights aren't linked on a single ticket and are treated as seperate bookings.

When i was in Japan, albeit as a tourist, i didn't fly domestically, their rail network is too fantastic in my opinion, and if you're in Japan for anything more than a few days, its worth looking into a Japan Rail pass.

Actually, the domestic departures is in the same terminal building, but another level. Refer to: Kansai International Airport | Arrivals and Departures | Transit Procedures

Have you considered the JAL 'Welcome to Japan Fare' rather than the OneWorld 'Visit Japan Pass'?

Extracted from: JAPAN AIRLINES - oneworld Yokoso/Visit Japan Fare

A key difference between the ''Welcome to Japan Fare'' and the new oneworld Yokoso/Visit Japan Fare, is that travelers using the original ''Welcome to Japan Fare'' can use oneworld carriers or any other airline serving Japan for their international flights to and from Japan, whereas the new, lower priced, oneworld Yokoso/Visit Japan Fare is available only to travelers using oneworld carriers to and from Japan.

Previous experience I have had with JAL would indicate that you will need to argue with them before they sell the ticket to you without a JAL ticket (they refused until I produced a website printout).

There is also the All Nippon Airways (ANA) 'Visit Japan Fare' (ANA SKY WEB - ANA Travel Services) however I had problems trying to purchase this in Australia since ANA closed their Sydney booking office post-Ansett codehare demise. You could try contacting ANA's overseas booking offices.

Another option is AI Ticket: Japan Domestic Air Tickets - Ai-Ticket.com

My comment was a general statement as I didn't know the specific for KIX. But thanks for that, you're obviously quite up to speed with visiting Japan! Jealous....

Please don't get me wrong; I totally agree with the intent of your post regarding leaving plenty of time for transfers! Just posted that link to clarify the actual location of domestic check-in.

No worries :) I do remember the automated shuttle train at KIX and noticed that it didn't really go very far.

Thanks for the links hardya, I will contact JAL.

I am worried about connection times, I only have 90mins to make the last dom connection. If I dont checkin any of my bags will I have enough time to make the connection.

It would be running it fine and could be risky if JQ is late, as the domestic flight will not be on the same ticket/booking (ie: they are not likely to hold the plane up a while if JQ runs late).

Note that you will have to collect your suitcase, go through customs/immigration and then re-check-in your suitcase at the domestic check-in counter (you cannot through-check luggage from JQi to JLdom).

I am not sure about JAL, however All Nippon Airwys (ANA) quote a minimum of 60 minutes connection time between int'l -> dom at KIX (ANA SKY WEB ENGLISH : International Flights). From my experience at KIX, whilst immigration lines are not particularly crowded, the 'foreigners' (non-Japanese) lines tend to get processed rather slowly (and this was prior to the mandatory photograph and finger-printing).

If the JQ flight runs to schedule and you make a dash from the plane towards immigration to get near the head of the queue, then you should be right.

In the worst case, there are always JAL staff around the terminal who you can go to for help and I am sure they would make necessary arrangements to re-book if necessary.

Have you considered an overnight stay in nearby Rinku Town http://www.pref.osaka.jp/rinkai/english/index.html (I think most hotels there - like ANA Gate Tower - have a complimentary shuttle bus) and get the first flight in the morning to HND from KIX; or a stay in Osaka itself and leave on an early morning flight from Osaka Itami (ITM) domestic airport?
