Taking a rare JQ flight tomorrow (Thursday) afternoon and decided to go all out and get a BP sent to my phone.

Rather than a text with a link to a scan-able code thing, I got a text with a 10 alpha code repeated 3 times (eg XOPFGILLdX) , then "Boarding pass for JQ711", followed by the flight departure date and time, SEQ and other things as you would find on a paper BP.

Is that how it should be? Nothing to scan and no link to get something to scan?

I'm pretty sure that's what I got last time I tried to do it on my phone - can't remember exactly but think you get a boarding slip when I checked my bag

When you board, they will punch in that 10 alpha code into their machine, and a paper (?thermal) BP will be given to you...strange process if you ask me.

I have the same for a 8am flight tomorrow - I am going to corner one of the Jetstar staff and get a boarding pass otherwise I will not be able to get into the QP

Sounds like they did their research and their demographic is those who don't have internet connected phones :p with colour screens for photo/barcode display.

IMO Jetstar has the most user friendly mobile phone boarding passes in Australia. You simply scan the SMS at the gate...

No need for a smart phone, no need for mobile internet to download the boarding pass, no need for a 2D barcode to be display...just that SMS...Simple...

Scan the phone screen (with SMS displayed) in the orange box as you board, and take the boarding slip print out.

Well, simple when it actually all works correctly... which isn't too often.

Agreed with DK4. I've used it a couple of times and it works well, even if it looks ugly.

If you have 2 pax on the same booking you can chose to SMS to different phones but I think the 1 SMS can be used for both pax (Odd I know - but my last experience was this worked).

These cause more hold ups when boarding than anything else IMHO. When the boarding queue stops moving you can almost be certain that it's another phone BP causing the problem. Personally, even if you have one, I would go to a kiosk at check-in and get a printed pass. That way the lounges and gate scanning all goes smoothly.

yes I agree, if I don't have access to a printer I send it to my phone but get the paper from the kiosk due to the problems scanning. If I have a printer I just print the pdf one. Much faster. Despite the problems scanning those sms codes I find the JQ OLCI process very good.

i would love to know how many ACTUAL DELAYED DEPARTURE/ARRIVALS are due to phone BP .... i'd hazard to guess it's negligible.. because if it was a problem to an airlines 'bottom line' it would be removed...once again 'human nature' (aka DYKWIA) rears its ugly head. . "i had to wait an extra 5seconds to board because the guy in front had a phone BP" ...many more scenarios..'i had to wait an extra 5seconds to board because someone ahead of me had too much/oversize carryon..OR others in front of me had to 'engage in converstion' for various reasons with the boarding F/As...in the end..WE ALL ARRIVED ON SCHEDULE!!

You guys are absolutely no fun at all. For once I wanted the frisson of being " that person" who was holding up the queue ;)

say what you want but they simply don't scan all the time. unlike the printed barcodes that very rarely refuse to scan

My unfortunate experience with Jetstars phone BP involved the barcode not scanning at the gate, being told to step aside while everyone else boarded, then having my carry on stowed some 10 rows behind me (being the last to board on a full flight). Oh, and being the last one to get off was nice too. Get a paper BP from the self check in kiosk.
