@Aviation:) My first suggestion would be become a Jetstar member. Not sure current subscription but last time I paid it was $55. This gives you annual membership.
As a member you get first dibs at any special price and gives you discount on every ticket purchase even if not on special, plus some of the addons like luggage, seat selection etc.
As an example last year they ran a special of buy a fairly cheap ticket one way to Japan and the return flight is free. The catch is the special is for limited seats for certain date combos, but as a Jetstar member I received an email 48hrs before the general public and consequently had a wide range of options to choose from. The general public got just the leftovers after the members had grabbed the combinations they wanted.
Another example was a limited special of $26 one way BNE-MEL or MEL-BNE. I grabbed 2 seats each way in the 48hr heads up period on the dates I wanted for $52 each for my partner and I plus my bag addon was discounted. A friend who is not a member didn’t get the email to 48hrs later and complained couldn't find any seats left on multiple dates.
If you normally travel as a couple or family, you only need one membership and as long as you are all one the one booking and on the same sectors each of you gets any discounts applicable.
