Just had my flight cancelled from Perth to Adelaide at 11:00am, and I was due to fly out at 3:50pm. Pretty short notice if you ask me....

I asked for another flight, but best they could do was provide a flight to Adelaide tomorrow at same time (3:50pm). Best they would do is pay up to $150 for accommodation and provide a $100 voucher, but that was after speaking to them for 1/2 an hour on the phone. Not good enough.

There's a Qantas flight available a few hrs after my initial flight was scheduled to depart, but the Jetstar team told me they don't have access to the Qantas flights. It was $1100 for the Qantas flight and $1200 for business with Virgin, so I've had to shell out close to $1000 to get back to Adelaide this evening.

What are my rights? What should I do?

Very very disappointed with Jetstar; won't be flying with them again.....

unfortunately that's the problem with LCCs on thin routes (ie only 1 service a day)
but even happens on premium airlines occasionally

did they say if it was mechanical or operational (code for not enough passengers)

from EF the QF flight is the only other direct option.. and is now totally full.
(although the QF website is still showing availability on the JQ flight)

You have no more rights than what has been provided or offered, a next available flight and meal/accommodation, although I shudder to think what you will get for $150 in Perth on a Friday. Do you have any DJ points:

Don't have enough points with DJ, so I just paid the $1189 so I can get home today. I wouldn't mind so much if I was given a days notice, but 4hrs is just plain wrong. They didn't provide any explanation as to why the plane was cancelled...

Hope your a velocity member, the bonus points from the current 2X promo will mean a balance you can use for future issues!

At only 4 hours notice I'd say it was a case of an inbound plane becoming unserviceable, unfortunately a fact of life when travelling from time to time, yes it sucks big time as I've been in the same position as you.

Whilst PER-ADL routing would have been preferable, did you ask about say doing a PER-MEL-ADL. Yes it's more flying but it might have gotten you home much cheaper than your now paying.

4 hours is better than no notice.
It is one of the frustrating things about the actual industry. There are many reasons as to why a flight may be cancelled. If you look at the JQ974 (ADL->PER)today it was cancelled, so your flight never made it out today. This may be due to the plane going tech, JQ needing the plane elsewhere or cancelled due to load.

What they did offer you is in line with what I would expect (considering there is only one JQ flight a day), and it is more than what you would get if you were flying with Tiger (well atleast according to their show).

JQ974 did not operate the ADL-PER leg today.

If you are not a Velocity member then I would join ASAP - the SC and points alone almost make it worthwhile in its own right and gives you a good excuse to sample more of the VA world and keep QF honest. Sorry to hear about your hassles with JQ though.

Yes, I am a velocity member, but was unaware of 2 x promo bonus? Any details on that anyone.

Thanks to all for your replies. I could of saved money on the PER->MEL->ADL route, but I would arrive back in Adelaide tomorrow morning....

I'm booked on a flight to BKK with Jetstar on Tuesday, so let's hope their international routes are more reliable....

All VA J flights between now and the end of the month come with double miles and ddouble SCs, if you had Platinum status you would be getting in excess of 20000 miles from DJ, at 6900 points on avera plus some cash you can then grab at least three J reward flights with little or no notice in the future, as per my original screen shot which would have got you home next day but earlier than the JQ option and cheaper than buying a seat.

What markis said.....

Hopefully abarker is successful with travel insurance. As a side note - there seems to be an extraordinary amount of positioning flights with JQ A320's in the last few days. They sure do love ferrying around empty A320's!!

For that price at the moment, two parts of stuff all. Hotel occupancy is as tight as a duck's backside latelt, and you'd be looking at 3 star properties or backpackers establishments. Even the low-end chain properties are bursting at the seams.

Even mid week is getting insane. Was checking something out after a question online today. For 22 FEB, you can't get into an IHG property for anything less than AUD650/nt, with one (the CP Perth) having a staggering start price of AUD1150/nt.

DO you have travel insurance? May be covered for additional expenses resulting from a cancellation.
If you purchased the original ticket on your credit card, check if this kind of coverage is included & file a claim as soon as is practicable.

My corporate travel agent managed to get $360 a night for the Hotel Ibis next week. The Ibis!!!!
