Just wanted to share a picture I took on arriving at work yesterday morning, 22/12/2011. I was not quick enough with my camera but the Air New Zealand aircraft just replaced another JQ A320 that was pushing back. It makes me wonder whether there is any truth to the rumoured return of QF to OOL while JQ is so successful at this port, or is this success the reason for a possible return. When you see the orange stars lined up like this then the LCC terminal redevelopment by GCAL appears to have been on the money. I know its holiday season but this line up is a fairly typical scene most mornings now.

Woah, that's the worse I've seen in a while. But I know it's getting pretty invaded by Jetstar, for one it's holidays and they have extra services. But the last two times I've came to pull into the gate the flight has been stuck on the taxi way because JQ are using all the gates and the aircraft that should pull out to let us get in has been delayed.

That's a good promo pic for Jetstar.

Well it doesnt help with OOL airport insisting its a LCC airport. Will QF return to OOL? I doubt it. You will likely just see some premium seating shoved into some lonestar buses if they think the money is there.

I find it funny they consider themselves to be low cost yet the main picture on their brochure suggests otherwise (suit man walking out of the ocean aint very 'bogany').

I doubt QF will return, unless a 'premium' terminal is built for VA and QF :P

Why would VA need a premium terminal?

You never know... Personally I think QF could throw a QFlink service in there and make an absolute killing, a la a similar strategy in ports like LST where they have built a very healthy business supplementing JQ with QFlink after removing QF.

One can hope!!

Why would VA need a premium terminal?

Well, since Virgin is trying to be more full service you'd think they'd want to be be in an equivalent terminal with QF if there ever was such a thing.

If j* is doing really well, why would qantas start qantas flights again and cannibalize itself?

Because of the potential margin and feeder to QF ops. They could easily target VA with a clever route and pricing strategy and cut VA's lunch for them.

I reckon Qantas would be wanting to cash in by 2018 and the Commonwealth Games. I know it's a while away, but wouldn't you want a slice of that pie?

I can't wait to what OOL have planned for the Commonwealth Games, they will need to expand the terminal big time.

I know well to do people on the GC who fly J via Brisbane. It's crazy. I think QF can do with some flights for those who want premium travel. Prem travel isn't just for business travelers after all. I think QF and JQ can share this airport with success.

Today we went CNS/OOL direct few JQ planes on ground, but never ever seen so many Bogan invasion on one flight, all ages, usual sleveless T shirts, hairy armpits, many unshaven and lots of thongs, in terminal many more, yep real class, wonder what visitors think:)

Must be all the north QLDers heading home for christmas.:lol: Some interesting view points about whether QF will return. Personally I think they will if for nothing else to try and recapture some of the business market that DJ has picked up. Just my observation and not supported by any facts but I believe that most business people flying in and out of OOL now are using DJ and surely when the new lounge opens this will further encourage people toward DJ. Question for Qantas is are they happy to let that trend continue and is that portion of the market too insignificant to bother about?

Official answer to question posed about any potential QF/QFLink presence returning to OOL: 'not able to comment' from Red Roo.

Oh well! Fingers crossed. Wasn't a no I guess.

I assumed the promise of direct China flights would be a catalyst to building a terminal with aero bridges, as I can't see the Chinese market enjoying exiting onto the tarmac!

That said, what space is there. It was built in the stupidest location.

There is a stack of space on the other side of the runway. It's my understanding that road along the western side of the runway can be easily moved/put underground.
