JL don't fly NRT-KIX so I may have to book a Jetstar Japan flight to connect to a SYD-NRT booking. What's the operation like in Japan?

Only flew them when they were new, early 2012 I think it was. Pretty much like any other Jetstar but with the Japanese organisation that means priority boarding is properly policed etc.

Decent enough for a short flight.

JL fly every other airport pair between Tokyo and Osaka though - if you really wanted to fly JL why not go that way?

As for GK, their service is usually quite lovely. Weather can stuff up operations in Winter, but other than that they usually run well. If you buy the pack you get your QFF points (or can credit to JL mileage if you prefer), along with enough credit for a snack and drink on board. I certainly am happy to fly GK when the price saves me. Only downside for me is the lack of lounge access.

Why are you looking at KIX? JL fly ITM-NRT. ITM is closer to central Osaka then KIX.

And I can't think of many reasons why NRT would be preferable to HND... I guess NRT could be useful for some connections arriving/departing from there though.

Flying in a friend to meet me at Osaka on QF SYD-NRT; inexperienced traveller who I don't want to trouble with transiting from NRT to HND.

Ahh yes that makes sense. You could still fly them to ITM on JL if you liked. GK would be fine for inexperienced travellers too though.

I checked the JL website and it only has one flight for the day in the evening, and as you would know QF arrives into NRT in the morning. So it looks like it will be GK.
