Came across an interesting problem today.

Booking a flight for my dad this weekend.

All the cheap fares were sold out so only thing available was a Jetflex ticket.

When I log into Qantas frequent flyer the name was first name initial with surname and so when I tried to make the booking on Jetstar the name wouldn't match the frequent flyer number.

So ring up Qantas and they say that only the first name initial is on the profile, there idea was just add the initial to the booking with Jetstar but then the Jetstar page says you have to add the name as per passport so initial wasn't going to work.

Ended up booking the flight without the Qantas frequent flyer number and I will have to email the boarding pass to Qantas Frequent Flyer and hopefully get points and miles for it,

I just logged into the Qantas profile which has now just been updated with first name.

I will have to tell my dad not to loose the boarding pass; or I might just check in online and keep the boarding pass so I can scan it with the booking.

Yes old frequent flyer account pre 1992.

Try not to lose the boarding pass but also keep the itinerary on hand.

JQ may ask you for anything when it comes to crediting flights. I was asked for my itinerary last time (even though I did have BPs on hand).

Sir Bund Bear - the check in person will add the FF number to Y tickets on getting his BP. He MUST tell them before he gets the BP in his had or printed, otherwise they take the number and promise to "do it later" which IME has NEVER happened...

As long as the says - "hello, I'm senior Bundy Bear, here's my QF FF card please add the number to this bookin - oh, heres my other ID/Passport", he'll be OK

Bundy is it a domestic or international flight?

Also I'm sure this was discussed somewhere in another thread but I believe when giving the QF f/flyer no. to JQ they have to add two zeros infront of the number and one zero afterwards then it should accept it.

In other words what is a 7 digit number with QF would become a 10 digit number with JQ.

Just ring up JQ reservations and get them to add it in.

Cheers

I'm sure that this has been solved already but there is a field matching problem between the QF and JQ data warehouse with FF numbers. Very odd indeed, as one would think in the year 2010 that these issues could be solved automatically. In layman terms, QF record the FF number as an integer. i.e., 007, 00007, 07... all of these are simply "7". In other words they are all the same (i.e. numbers).

JQ's system stores them as characters. Which means what you enter is exactly what you get. To our human eyes we can see that 007 is supposed to mean "7", but the computer cannot. This could be easily solved by a bit of ETL development but alas is not the case.

I know this to be true as my brother works for QF's data warehouse for loyalty and this is a big issue for them.
