I'm (unfortunately) flying JQ Mel-Bne this afternoon and am on a Jetsaver Light fare.

I've checked in online, and will pretty much be going straight to the gate to avoid any check in dragons.

I've got a small wheelie case and a small laptop/ipad bag. The wheelie case will be right on 10kg, but the policy says the limit is a combined weight for both bags. Just want to make sure I'm not going to have to check the wheelie case at the last minute...so do they actually weigh luggage at the gate?

For domestic I don't think they do. I don't even know if there are scales at the gates (there are sizing brackets...I think...but not scales...)

If you merely only have those things then I'd doubt it'd be a problem. On the other hand, had you a large rollarboard or three bags on you then there might be....

I've deliberately picked the bags I'm taking because they don't "look" like they'd be over the limit!

I hadn't noticed scales at any gates previously either - but normally fly QF, so haven't taken much notice of the JQ gates. In fact, I don't think I've ever noticed scales at any gate anywhere in the world!

Occasionally they do check the bags for size if they appear big but don't weigh them at the gate.

I should be fine then - they don't look to big or heavy at all. I'm going to blame you guys if I do get caught out! ;)

So I went through security in MEL - screen said not boarding until 3:35 so I thought "cool, that's 20min for some wine and cheese in the QP". BTW - new cheese selection better than before, but I'd really like to see some king island double brie ;)

Anyway, I sit down, have a sip on wine, then they call the flight 15min before the boarding time. I eat & drink quickly, and by the time I get to the gate they're making the third "final" call and I was second last to board! So even if there were scales at the gate, there wasn't time to use them! All good with the bags although not much locker space by the time I was on board.

Anyway, I'm now sitting in the rental carpark waiting for the other half to arrive on a delayed Virgin flight coming from ... yep you guessed it ... Sydney.
