Ok..I am off on a 6.40 am flight tomorrow with carry-on bags.

I thought it was going to be easy. Just use the web check-in avaialble 24 hours out....and just rock up with the Boarding Passes to avoid the queues nice and relaxed and then to continue on by having breakfast in the QC if I get there early enough.

BUT after having tried all day from 7am on (it is now after 9pm...) i still can't check-in. have rung Jetsra several times and am just told it is System maintenance and then to try again later. Yeh..sure.

Besides I am running out of time.
So not having flown our of MEL on JQ for a while..what are the options?

1/ Can I check in at the QC (I do not have bags to check in) ?
2 I assume that JQ has Ticket-kiosks now so that I can avoid queues that way?

If anyone has recent experience I would appreciate their advice as it would seem that I should not rely on what JQ says.

thanks

Based on my experience and recollections:

1. I've heard JQ have installed ticket kiosks at MEL. Can't confirm as I havn't seen them.
2. Qantas Club check-in is still available, but closes around 1 hour (or maybe 45 mins) before flights.

Been a while since I've had to use Qantas Club check-in though.

.

Thanks for that.

I have read a press release on-line saying that they were opening.

Though that does not mean that they are operational though!!!

Looks like that I might have to leave earlier than I was intending for the Airport to be on the safe-side.

Jetstar have about 10 or so Fully Operational self-serve kioks. All done within 30 seconds.

They open 2hours before departure, although sometimes I have used them earlier than this

Enjoy your flight!

Thank you. Excellent news :D

On the QC I also just found this on the QANTAS site (see below)....so I assume it is good for MEL since MEL is a large QC.

However might just whisk thru the Jetstar Kiosk first..and then into the QC for breakfast.
As I am travelling with my wife..I will drop her at the Kiosk area..and then go park in the Long-term car park and meet her in the QC.

Access for Jetstar passengers

Qantas Club members travelling with Jetstar are welcome in any Qantas Club or QantasLink lounge. Simply show your boarding slip and Qantas Club card, or Platinum or Gold Qantas Frequent Flyer card, at the lounge reception. You may also invite one guest who need not be travelling. If you are travelling without luggage you can check in for your Jetstar flight in most Qantas Club lounges. When you fly Jetstar, you won't be able to access partner, associated or oneworld airline lounges.
Other Qantas Club privileges, such as priority baggage, do not apply when travelling on Jetstar.
Note: Lounge check-in for Jetstar is 40 minutes before departure. If you arrive within 40 minutes of scheduled departure, go directly to the Jetstar check-in counter. You need to check-in for Jetstar flights at least 30 minutes before scheduled departure otherwise your ticket will be forfeited. No refund or free transfer is available. You will be required to book and pay for a new ticket if you wish to travel.

They've been operational since at least June.

I helped some friends use them before taking them to the QP. After that, they flew on to DRW, I went home ...

Ok Post-flight Report

Well I am glad I check what options B & C were after web check-in failed as the Kiosks while working would not work for my booking reference. Remember that we had rung 4 times the day prior and were re-asswured that our bookingwas valid.

A HUUUUUUGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGEEEEEEEEEEEEEE queue was at the normal JetStar Check-in area. So off to the QC first.

Luckilly there it al worked and we gained our bording passes easily.

Boy was I glad that we only had walk on bags!!!!!

Rang Jetsar aftewrwards..and as we still had a return flight from CNS where one cannot check in for JQ flights in the QC I wanted the matter sorted out.

We were told that the kios and web-check in usea different system to the check-in counters. This was why normal check -in still worked.
So I presume that somehow our booking got corrupted when put into the second system.

Asking then for it to be fixed for the return leg...customer service was no that they would not do it fora single fault.

We would just have to check-in at the desks if the kiosks did not accept it again (whicj seemed likely)!!!

Great customer servive=NOT!!!!!!!!!!

On arrival at CNS this moring we elected to arrive at 2 hours prior when the check-in opened and thus avoid queues..and enjoya coffee in the QC aftrewards (plus havea brouse of this forum etc).

Could not test the kiosj as even though they were there they had no power on and so were not operatuional. So we do not know if the fault was there for the return leg.

One thing about this trip was that it again proved the value of my QC membership ;)
