Just a couple of things I thought worth mentioning when checking in online with Jetstar using the self service kiosks at airports.
Was helping a friend checkin the other day and followed all the prompts etc and it spat out a boarding pass for 4B ie a middle seat on the A320 flight DRW/BNE JQ82 @ 0600.
Checkin via the self service kiosks at the airport does not give you the option of viewing a seat map and selecting a seat. I might add that we went up to the service desk who changed the seat to an exit row window (at no cost extra cost ) so everything worked out fine.
Tip 1.
My suggestion particularly for families when you are booking online via the Jetstar website make sure that you allocate your seats when you book - both your forward and return journeys. If you haven't done this at time of booking you can always ring Jetstar Reservations & they will allocate seats.
Good idea to do this if you have separate pnrs eg if a couple is booked on the same flights but made the reservation at different times eg first pax is on a fflyer redemption using a QF codeshare flight & the other pax has paid a formal Jetsaver fare on JQ website.
That way when using the airport kiosks it will simply print out your boarding passes for the seats you've chosen thus avoiding any dramas about not being able to sit together.
Tip 2.
Always have your Jetstar booking number with you, even better always carry your itinerary with you for easy reference to speed up checkin process at kiosks.
Tip 3.
You may have booked flights via the Qantas system where you are travelling on JQ metal however but have a QF flight number (the dreaded codeshare phenomenon). It is also possible to sometimes have booked on a JQ flight number via the QF website.
In this case you'll have a Qantas itinerary and Qantas booking number etc. This number won't work at Jetstar kiosks or checking in at home - you must have the actual Jetstar booking reference.
A few days before you go call QF quoting their booking reference number and ask them to give you your Jetstar booking reference which should appear somewhere in your Qantas booking beneath the ticketing field & should say "JQ confo number XYZ456". This is the reference you must use.
Can anyone who has used web checkin with JQ recently tell me if their site displays a seat map so you can choose your seat (unlike the airport kiosks) or is that facility only available for you when you do the initial booking online?
Cheers Oz
