I rarely fly Jetstar, however today I did from MEL-OOL (for work purposes). I booked this about 1 month ago, and the only fares being sold on the flight were (the most expensive) JetFlex fares. That was the case for about 2 weeks before I made the booking and remained the case over the last month. Naturally I believed the flight would be packed as only these high fares were available and of course this was at the start of the Victorian school holidays. Have also been trying to get award redemption for my partner to come up but nothing at all - again heavy loadings due to school holidays, I assuned.
So was the plane full? No, in most rows at least 2 out the 6 seats were empty so I'd estimate a load factor of around 70%. Could have easily snuck half a dozen redemption seats onto the plane and well I just frankly find it a bit rich that the self promoted hero of the masses and airline whose "aim is to provide consistent low fares to Australian, New Zealand and Asian leisure travellers" is charging top dollar and flying around planes 1/3rd empty. There is no problem with them doing this, after all they are there to make money, but can't help but thinking that the masses have been conned.
