Hi all

What is the general opinion on the starter plus bundle on Jetstar? Flying to Japan next year and thinking of whether it's worth adding on purely for the QFF points.

Thanks

It depends.

Do you need the SCs and is it a cost effective price per SC? The added value of lounge access if not otherwise entitled may also be worth considering if you're travelling in J.

If in Y, it has some value, but it does depend on various factors.

So take OOL-NRT. $90 for starter plus. If you were going to take 15 kg luggage ($34) , the add on is $56, or if you were taking 20kg ($39) the add on is $51. If not taking luggage then it's less valuable.

Now - I like aisle seats so always do seat selection - $7 there. So the add on is now $44 or $49. For this you get a meal, free flight changes and some points. Points will be 3900, 5850, 6825, or 7800 depending on your status with Qantas. So you are paying $44 or $49 for those points, some flexibility, 40 status credits and a meal. Up to you if you think it worthwhile or not. For those with status who are taking luggage, it would seem definitely worthwhile, for those with no status, or hand luggage only it would seem more marginal.

Thanks - this is very helpful. I'm at the beginning of my mileage career with Qantas, having just moved to Australia, so no status unfortunately. Might pass it up this time.

I would never fly in whY on JQ regardless ( except maybe short haul Dom) . So a J plus bundle does it for me

I had to travel MEL-NTL recently and JQ was the most convenient route. QF requires a journey via BNE. I took the plus pack one way to get 10 SCs and with my recent travel finish my year on 1200 SCs.

For me it was worth it and I survived. No J seating on this route and I was HLO.

If I need luggage and seat selection then I will add the bundle. The $10 onboard credit gets me a beer and some Pringles.

If only need seat selection then I don't bother with the bundle.

OT but anyone notice that bundles on domestic routes have increased again? It is now $40 on the short routes. An extra $40 for 10 SCs is not easy to justify.

If you look at it as $ 4.00 per SC it's actually not too bad.

I've flown Jetstar to Japan 4 times, but only in J. Always added the Bundle for the SCs. I think it's worth it. It's not that much extra and you're going anyway!

Here's an interesting dilemma this weekend.

JQ is cheaper than Virgin or Qantas and I want to travel with my 2 year old daughter. I would like to add the Plus bundle just for me. Can only be done by calling and there are service fees involved that will make the flights more expensive than Qantas.

Classic LCC.

I had a similar situation recently (last week) as both the website & App was crashing before the payment screen on my devices, so I called the service centre to arrange the booking and explaining my booking issues. I was quoted a price that was alot more than the online booking price due to the service fees etc so I mentioned the website price and they matched it straight away - maybe worth a try?

@Flyin_Penquin, I've tried already. They need to make separate booking for daughter and want to charge service fee.

Booked the Qantas flight instead for $4 extra and used points + $39 to book daughters airfare.

Good outcome,

If booking with Jetstar then there is a long wait for SCs to post; seems like the plus bundle is a good idea just doesn't work for when you want the SCs.
