Does anyone really need to take a step backwards to mobile phone checkin? Surely we should be moving towards seat selection on smart phones etc…

One wonders how many "world first" mobile check-in systems there are going to be..?

Guys this technology lets passengers use ANY type of mobile phone. The check-in system (mobile) used by DJ/QF use 2D barcodes, JQ's BP's use only characters in a normal SMS.
So no need for MMS/WAP, only SMS (which im sure every mobile phone has these days, even the old nokia 5110?!)

I guess it makes sense for travellers that clearly don’t want to spend too much on their tickets… but it still seems like a step backwards. Could actually be better than those systems used by everyone else from an ease of use point of view.

I’d rather have a mobile site/app that allows me to change seats and whatnot, and then maybe have the SMS sent to me.

QF are slowly enhancing their iPhone/mobile site adding more functionality slowly but surely.

Hopefully they add seat selection shortly :)

I did see you could login to your account now in a user-friendly mobile format.

Definetly not a "world's first", have checked in using my old mobile (no smartphone) via SMS on Air Berlin since more than 2 years ago.

But surely it is the world's first "mobile-check-in-that-was-developed-by-a-23-yo-Aussie"
