Poor guy, has copped alot of slack in the last few weeks!
. He deserved what he got....not declaring free trips to China, accepting a suit, hotel accomodation from his brother (via NiB)...and not declaring it....appparently there's more:shock:

Looks like its payday for ex-Minister Fitzgibbon - unlike his unpaid Special Forces groups:rolleyes:

I suppose so :) but I guess not knowing everything, I can't really comment ... but I'm sure the pressure is on being in the spotlight !!! so I guess I'm feeling more sorry for the pressure!

While it may be argued that the Minister for Defence is responsible for both the air force and navy and those two forces do travel as part of their responsibilities, I don't really see this one as relating to travel or frequent flying. As such, please feel free to follow this discussion in the Playground.

No worries.

I have known the Fitzgibbon family for 25 years-though the father Eric. All I can say is that all of this comes as no surprise.

I don't suppose you care to elaborate further?;)

With this admission, his position became untenable:!:
Mr Fitzgibbon said he had quit after it was revealed his ministerial office was used for a meeting between a big US health insurer, Humana, his brother Mark, who heads the health fund NIB, and government and veterans' affairs officials
Joel Fitzgibbon resigns as Defence Minister

Why is this unacceptable? If it was just NIB/US Health then that is bad but they met government officials. Govt officials meet with industry all the time.

I would expect the NIB CEO to have fairly frequent access to the vet affairs officials.

Except these Government officials were not only from veteran affairs.
I am also not sure why the NIB CEO should have fairly frequent access to veteran affairs officials. If MBF,Medibank Private CEOs etc were also able to meet Government Officials in the Ministers office it might not be so bad. This looks terrible.

I have to say that I'm surprised that this is getting as much air time as it is on a Frequent Flyer web-site. It's certainly a hot topic on the Navy web-sites that I frequent.

Mind you, I had to chuckle tonight when he said on TV that there were a "number of Judas's" in his Department. I'd have thought that he did a pretty good job on himself.

I don't think you need proof. It's what happens.

And Fitzgibbon got what he deserved.
I'll wager it doesnt.Private Health insurance CEOs would meet in the Health minister's office with Health department officials not in the defence minister's office with defence officials.

I am sure that happens as well. I also would expect them to meet with Vet affairs due to the connections between ageing and health and the funding between agencies.

I have no idea why they wouldnt meet in the health minister's office though.
