Hello.

I want to have a flight on the 787 and JQ are currently using it on some Domestic flights which means an easy and cheap opportunity to fly it.

I was looking at the afternoon return 787 flights between MEL and OOL. They only have an hour between the arrival and departure and I would rather not have to spend a night on the Gold Coast. Due to the short time I would have to book them on separate itineraries, but thats not a big deal. I'm just worried about having enough time to get off the plane, to the terminal, back through security and to the departure gate before it is too late.

I will have checked in online before leaving melbourne and would have no bags so this is not something I need to worry about.

Hopefully with all the knowledge on here I could be advised as to whether it would be a good idea or not to do this.

You don't need to go back through security etc as arrivals mingle with departures, not an issue. If you do OLCI you should already have a BP.

Don't leave the terminal at OOL. If you need to eat, there's a food court there.

Ok thanks. So I can walk straight off the aircraft back to the departure gate at OOL?

I'm not too worried about delays as been on the same aircraft any inbound delays would mean I wont miss the return. only thing that worries me is the plane been full of rowdy teenagers going too/from Schoolies this time of year.

Don't know how long the 787 will be doing Domestic and flights are cheap so great opportunity. But before I book, no one thinks this plan is a bad idea that's going to bite me?

Why not consider going up to Cairns on the Monday morning and coming back on the Wednesday morning?...its a nice little ride etc!...did it last week!...up 1J back 1A...Cairns is good this time of year..hire a car and go up to Cape Trib and back!.....Gr8t Aircraft...Cheers....Just a thought!..

Thanks for the Welcome Hvr, and will do would be fun to meet other enthusiasts.

I think I am going to take the plunge that no one has gave me any warning not to :)

The other posters are right - just online check in before you leave and you don't have to go through immigration and security. I was on the first 787 domestic flight and since I had the boarding pass, no need to leave the terminal. Everything interesting is airside anyway so just make sure you have your boarding pass before boarding in MEL and you will be fine.
