JQ SYD-NRT-SYD
Just checked a JQ fare SYD-NRT (return) including the additional Business Max bundle costs.
For SYD-NRT it is a $410 extra charge in addition to the base 'J' fare.
For the NRT-SYD return sector it is only $330 additional over the base fare. I think the base fares were similar.
If I'm assuming that all taxes and charges are included in the base J fare, then I'm wondering why there is a difference in bundle cost between sectors.
(I only checked one fare and hopefully I didn't cause an error)

I am assuming that all the flights you see are via Coolangatta? No direct JQ flights from SYD-NRT. There is of course no Starclass on the JQ A320's between OOL and SYD. From memory all the northbound flights OOL-NRT are during the day and southbound NRT-OOL are at night. Personally I would prefer to have the Starclass seat for the night flight if anything. Watch out closely for the connection times at OOL.

As for the difference in Max Bundle costs - take your pick:
1. Price gouging
2. Charging what the market can bear

But it does seem strange.... maybe others can enlighten us more.

I've also noticed that there are differences in max prices depending on the date, I have seen this on the MEL-SIN and MEL-BKK routes and return.

Not sure why but I guess demand and supply comes into play.

I've gone back and looked at the fares again. In my case, I now noticed that there were a number of fares to choose from on the return sector.
The BusMax cost seemed to vary proportionaly with the different base fares offered for the return sector. It wasn't so obvious initially.
I'll be more careful if I need to make booking.
