Booked JQ7 MEL-SIN for 16th Jan 2014 and now received an email to change date to 17th Jan 2014, not too sure why. I've got a wedding to get to overseas and wondering what my options would be. I'm keen to call them up to ask them to take me to my destination with another carrier say QF as ticket has been bought. I don't think you can claim anything if you have a yearly travel insurance can you?

You could easily ask to be put on the flight departing on the 15th. Of course if that's inconvenient then it's going to get a bit more complicated!

Forget to add flying in from SYD-MEL with QF earlier in the morning on 16th. Hence why I want to fly on 16th out to SIN.

Realistically you would have more chance of a refund then being put onto QF

JQ has explicit in their terms that their tickets do not guarantee travel on or before any date (ie they can do what they want).

Sadly you may be square out of luck here.

Does the Insurance cover you for cancellations?

What about are there any particular clauses for weddings? I was able to claim all sorts of changes to a trip after a flight was snowed out - I was to be best man at a wedding the day after landing.

ETA to add: I just checked my documents, nowhere on my claim did i mention I was best man, simply that I was invited, and had attached a copy of the invitation.

I've had the same thing with JQ MEL-SIN on a Thursday, except they want to change me from 26 Dec to 25 Dec. AS IF.

"Take it as a lesson to avoid Jetstar in the future" - exactly!! But I've been having a terrible time with this flight. I was originally booked in W on QF5 but QF changed my booking to go ADL - SYD - BNE to fly on QF51 but leaving SYD before I arrived. Then I was going via PER but QF changed that as well to an impossible connection ex ADL. So JQ looked like the only solution - I should have known better.

Maybe I will go to HKG instead and do a solo lounge crawl :p

No need for a solo crawl, let me know the dates haha

Going to call up for a refund and book with QF shortly, if JQ is going to be changing dates and times on me.

Was doing a SYD-MEL with QF to take a gamble if JQ7 will have a B787 MEL-SIN. Oh well... going to ask for a refund and book with QF to be safe to get to the wedding.

Is it possible to travel on the Wednesday (15th?)

All Airlines have that clause, however JQ also have the clause that if the change is significant, you are entitled to a refund (I am fairly sure we have been through that on here previously).

JQ has changed mine to 27 Dec at no charge, and also agreed when I said that my other choice was a refund. So good luck OP.

Before you ask for a refund for the MEL/SIN ticket on 16 Jan, assuming they'll even do that, check out what the cost would be to book a new ticket on another airline as it could be quite a bit more.

I would send a pm to the JQ Social Media team on Facebook & ask them if they are prepared to either move your date forward by one day or refund the ticket in full so you can rebook on an alternative carrier.

Haven't had that happen to me on JQ, but it did happen a couple of times on 3K. Generally speaking, they would book you into another flight by default, but you still have the option of +/- one day, or a refund which usually processes within a couple of weeks (although the official policy allows for a much longer timeframe). I would imagine JQ to have a similar set of procedures and options.

while they may say their tickets don't guarantee travel... it would depend on the reason for the cancellation.

if the matter was entirely within jetstar's control then the clause is pretty meaningless. generally such an exclusion would be taken to mean they may not be able to fly you because of weather or ATC or other circumstances outside their control (which would exclude scheduled maintenance)

a full refund may not be the appropriate compensation if alternative flights are much more expensive.

J* has changed things around on me a few times. Once quite substantially and they gave me a refund when I requested it. The other thing I always do with J* is to allow at least 24 hrs before I take the next flight. Your situation is different. You are taking the other flight before the J* flight. Makes me now think that one has to allow more flexibility or time between flights in that situation as well.
