I guess it's that time for all the carriers to play the "let's shaft the flyers" game.

I note amidst the VA turmoil and claims of jumping ship, JQ have done some jumping of their own. They've jumped the prices up .... 7% on my example (CNS-OOL was $279max bundle to $299max bundle) and the muffin and coffee is no longer $5 but now $6.50 (up 30%). I also note they haven't increased the V05A voucher at all.

Perhaps in readiness for them not being able to charge their overpriced "credit card fee"....?

Yes I had the unfortunate necessity to fly home on JQ last weekend and had a plus bundle. I noticed there is now virtually nothing of use for $5. A can of soft drink is $4.50 and when I said I would have a pepsi max she gave it to me and moved on. No mention about the extra .50c credit or anything. The drink and cookie or whatever it was for $5 before was reasonable I thought.

It was good value (coffee and muffin was my choice) and certainly JQ would not have been out of pocket over it. The coffee was drinkable (just) and the muffin was large. The new $6.50 is still OK value given where we are when we're being served, but I just get the feeling they've caught a bit of VA disease.....a (very) small part of the incentive to pay the extra for a bundle (a reasonable snack included) has now been whittled away. Just makes the bundle that little bit less attractive. It won't sway too many decisions, but I guess next time a little bit more will go, and so on until they're in the same boat as VA...no incentive to pay the carrier the much larger fare difference for the higher buckets. It beggars belief at times.....go for pennies at the risk of pounds.

My most recent JQ booking, albeit international, I was pretty sure the JQ service components of the bundle could be had for less than the $70 fee. The only thing extra being QFF earning. If you're not interesting in earning, then it may be the case that you save money by not getting the bundle.

My memory might be clouded by also investigate air asia and scoot recently.

On MEL-SIN, I've worked out that allowing $10 for meal/drink (which is probably not necessary, with access to QF lounge as an SG) on board and $5 for seat selection (to get an aisle seat), and $29 for luggage then the $85 fee comes down to $41. To be worthwhile I need to use the points I earn for flights at better value than 0.6c per point, which seems wortwhile, as I know you can use them for better value than that. If a NB though, without status bonus, the value of points is less compelling, at 1.05 c per point.

I too have noticed the substantial rise in F&B prices with regards to the onboard JQ menu.

The poor value in "meal deals" is particularly noticeable.

Poor form to offer the V05A knowing that there's almost no combination that will allow a pax to use the entire credit (without spending more money).

What a garbage move.
