Hi All,

Forgive me if this repeats another post. I remember reading something on here about poor service with JQ's Singapore route but for the life of me i cant find it now.

I am flying Star Class MEL-SIN 20th April and SIN-MEL 24th April. Has this flight still been having a lot of cancellations and if so is it still the norm that if it happens a star class gets bumped to QF J (i think i remember reading this, or maybe it was an optimistic dream i had).

Is there a website that tracks the track records of airlines routes about on time etc?

Try flightstats.com

Any JQ flight should be approached with a grain of salt really:p

Can't comment MEL->SIN but I was on JQ8 SIN->MEL a few weeks ago, and it was about standard for a JQ Star Class flight. Flight from MEL arrived on time (and so) we departed on time and arrived on time. Star Class cabin was about half full.

I thought the crew wasn't as good as the crews I have scored on the SYD->HKT route, but that is one of those luck of the draw things.

As said, expectations should be realistic, I haven't really ever had too much of an issue with JQ with on time performance, but as always YMMV.

We flew MEL-SIN in *class last month a day later than booked. Our original flight was cancelled; the options on offer were rebooking or refunds. Because I asked, I can confirm that QF J was definitely not on the table! :(

Hmmm now I'm scared!
Did they offer to put you up in hotel airport at all ? I thought being star class they may be more generous in what they offer.

Well, I don't know that you need to be scared, although that may depend on how important it is that your flight is on time. But no, there were no additional offers of assistance regarding accommodation (or anything else) ... so you've now got ten days to organise your travel insurance! Bear in mind the JQ customer guarantee:

if your flight is cancelled, offer alternative transport arrangements to get you to your destination at no additional cost to you, usually on the next available Jetstar flight before or after your booked flight.

It's still a good deal for $500 though!

Yeah insurance is a must! I have a gold CBA card which gives insurance but after reading the policy covers and excess maybe i should get my own insurance. I am staying in a nice room in the Marina Bay Sands the first 2 nights im there ($500 a night) and i would hate to have to pay for a night i miss and definitley need cover. Any one have recommendations on good insurance policies that would pay for accom you didnt get to use due to flight cancellation?

And I'm the other bad experience on the Board. 9hr delay in mid-Jan on QF7 arriving into SIN at 3am or so. Point blank refusal from the JQ airport manager to shift myself or another WP couple also flying *C to either the QF or EK flight - and we did ask.

Hotels were promised and then not provided - was an absolute shambles in SIN when we finally arrived.
The voucher provided (online) did not work.
JQ has not responded to my fax or letter.

On the plus side I had a lovely 11hrs in the MEL F Lounge.

That said a few other AFF members have taken the flight without a problem, so as always YMMV.

I'll be doing these flights soon but alas it was on a regular sale rather than star class. Any recent intel on ODU's at either end or even a few days in advance?

Also, coming back into SIN do JQ have an airside transfer desk?

They do. It's a shared desk with other airlines, but you'll see the JQ sign/logo. And luggage interlining seems to work at SIN between JQ and many airlines.

As posted on the ODU thread - mid-Jan paid A$249 on JQ7 on a lightly loaded flight.
No availability on JQ8 coming back - plane was packed full of Brits who had flown BA into SIN and then connecting to JQ.

Thanks Austman. I'll have carry on only so luggage won't be an issue.

I have about an 8 hour layover so I think I'll grab the JQ boarding pass at the transit desk, have a quick shower in the lounge and then head into town for a few hours.

I guess I'll come back about when check in opens (3 hours before?) and try for an ODU.

My flight on JQ7 back on the 1st of April was first delayed to 2PM...then 3PM before finally departing MEL at 4.20pm. It appeared they had to fly a replacement captain in from Sydney that day and he did not arrive into Mel till around 3.00pm.

I was more worried that the flight would be cancelled when 3.00pm approached !

The service, however, on the flight was fine and efficient except the power point on my seat in 4K (and 4J) did not work. This is the second time I have encountered this on a JQ international flight.

Points posted to my QF account within 24 hours.:)

I was also on JQ 7 on 1 April, with the departure delayed till 2pm, then 3pm, then 4.20pm. I have heard more about the pilot having to be flown from Sydney.
Apparently the pilot that actually flew us to Singapore, was scheduled to fly the flight, but Jetstar never told him he was on duty. The back up pilot in Melbourne was out of hours, so therefore they had to get the originally rostered pilot down from Sydney.

Seem to be some symptoms of slack organisation with Jetstar, with this being one example.

Flight was fine, service reasonable, food and beverage ok. Flight back on JQ8, was without incident, and Starclass only half full. Wish they had cloth, not leather, seats, however.

As long as delays are not significant for you its a great way to get 240 Status Credits. :)

I couldn't agree more.. Also, JQ just need to get a little more reliability on their flights and I would be happy to fly with them constantly.

The waiting for departure from 12.00 to 2.00 to 3.00 to 4.20pm was not ideal. But thank goodness for QF lounge access....

I was in economy... mel-sin was on-time.
but returning to melb flight was delayed by 2 hours from 9pm to 11 pm, then another hour later, then the plane landed in Changi airport, and they said there is a problem on the landing gear, so delay another hour (4 hours from schedule)....

half an hour later, the pilot is already exceeding his maximum working hours, and the flights cancelled. The flights is then rescheduled to 8.30am. for the pilot to have 6 hours rest.

we were transferred to a hotel, and checked in at the hotel by 1.30am, with the lugage still in the hull of the plane, bec they dont want to double handling the bagage. and everyone receive a morning call at 5am in the morning. (4 hour rest). =(

i can tell you i was super tired... but we all given non-stop snacks and drinks, and comfort kit during the flight back, and 100 aud voucher.

Did call my travel insurance, and i ask for clothing allwance bec the lugage is in the hull of the airplane, but got rejected bec it is not over 12 hours yet.

That remind myself to read the fine-print on the travel insurance next time.

I'm currently in the F Lounge waiting for JQ7 which looks to be running on time. I did an ODU at the service desk for ~$200, receiving a credit (automatically) for the extra legroom seat I had purchased. I got a Jetstar priority security pass which I hadn't seen before.

Anyway, I just received a call from a Jetstar agent noting I had checked in with ODU and offering me the return upgrade for $199. Of course I took it.

Overall a return flight during the Easter peak period for $900 including 240 status credits (which I don't need but they never hurt) + ~ 15k ff points.

Very happy with this.

Wow! What a *#$% up the flight home on 24th April was Sin -MEL.

After clearing security and waiting in the boarding lounge i look around and the room is absolutely packed. I get talking to someone who says they were on the flight last night which was cancelled after them sitting in the plane for 2.5hours due to a maintenance problem.

After about a 45 minute delay we are allowed to begin boarding. When walking in the plane it is clearly newer, a a330-200 with inbuilt tvs in the seats.

I am travelling Star Class so i take my seat 1B, and then another person says to me "i think your in my seat". He also had a boarding pass for 1B!! About 1 minute after this a third person comes over and also is ticketed for 1B! THe hostesses look shocked and basically say to "just grab another seat somewhere and hope no one else comes". This seems to work out ok as there were a couple of spare seats, but when the manifest came on the plane which showed what seats were occupied or empty, it was completely wrong.

I look down the aisle and there is a group of people standing back in Economy with no seats. There had been another 4 or 5 seats which had been ticketed 3 times for the 1 flight!

There manifest was clearly wrong, they werent 100% on what luggage they had on the plane, who was on the plane and who was sitting where, but once giving up all the crew seats they got everyone a seat and took off (maybe not the safest / legal choice in such a scenario?)

We eventually made Melbourne, but boy what a experience it was getting back! Has anyone else experienced this with JetStar before?

Wasn't the government doing some air safety inquiry thing recently? If this story is indeed true, that surely needs to be raised. Apart from the safety point of view of pax and/or crew on board, if the crew can't work out how many people and how much baggage is loaded, I can't see how the pilots can work out their take-off weight. As far as I know, the aircraft could've been over-loaded (as per the manfacturer's specs), or it could've ran out of fuel before arriving its intended destination.
