Qantas and British Airways are implementing a JSA Economy Class Fare Restructure effective 1st February 2012. The following JSA routes will be affected:

• Australia to UK/Europe v.v.
• Australia to SIN/HKG/BKK v.v.
• UK/Europe to SIN/HKG/BKK v.v.

Qantas and British Airways announced changes to their operations under their Joint Services Agreement (JSA), effective 25th March 2012. Changing the JSA Economy Class Fare Structure will provide both Qantas and British Airways improved visibility on the mix of mid-haul traffic to SIN/HKG/BKK and long-haul Australia to UK/Europe v.v. traffic, allowing us to deliver consistent and optimal customer access to seats on joint services to and through those Asian hubs.

Key features of the new JSA Economy Class Structure:

• Inventory classes of S, Q and O will be dedicated to selling long-haul Australia – UK/Europe v.v. itineraries;
• Inventory classes of L, V and N will be dedicated to selling mid-haul to SIN/HKG/BKK v.v. itineraries.
• Y, B, H, K and M inventory classes will continue to be available for both long-haul and mid-haul itineraries.

Qantas services to Mumbai

Qantas is also extending the same economy class fare structure to services between Australia and Mumbai, including through services between Australia and UK/Europe via Mumbai.

So for the conspiracy theorists among us - do we think this actually has a tangible negative effect on whY pax?

So what happens to economy round the world Global Explorer LONE5 & other such RTW tickets ?
These book into L. For example SYD-LHR as 1 segment but 3 continents (SWP-Asia-Eu).

So now need 2 segments and a change of flight numbers ?
A big change

The tables say mid haul is Australia to Asia. But what about Asia to Europe is that mid-haul or long haul. (probably a dumb question, but I can't see the answer). If Asia to Europe is long haul, that implies there is no L Asia to Europe, leading back to the question about LONEs. How can one get Asia to Europe in L? (if that is the case) CX, finnair only?

L class looks like it will still be there, with sale restirctions:

See the FAQ: http://www.qantas.com.au/agents/dyn/qf/policies/JSAFareRestructureFAQs.pdf

Inventory classes of L, V and N will be shown as available across all routes but will only be saleable for mid-haul itineraries to SIN/HKG/BKK.

Will oneworld and Global Explorer fare products currently sold in L class be affected?

No. oneworld and Global Explorer fare products will continue to be offered in L class for the Qantas Economy and British Airways World Traveller economy cabins.

Assuming earning tables for other airlines in OW do not change, does it mean it's easier/cheaper to get miles-accruing classes? Or is it a hidden price rise as O class promotional fares will no longer be available?

Either way, the alphabet as I've learnt it - Y B H K M L V will probably need updating...
