I couldn't think of any better group of people to tell.

I decided to take the step towards SG and have a status run today that will take me over the line.

Perth - Kalgoorlie return on a JASA ticket.

The J cabin looks empty on check in, so might get 1 on 1 service and will try and get photos for a trip report.

73H both ways, and am hoping for Boeing Sky Interior :)

Cheers,

ChrisCunard.

LOL thank you - my fiance will stop me - though she appreciated my decision to go as Gold for our upcoming Honeymoon means WAY more points earnt!

Just boarded the aircraft.

Boeing 737-838 with PTV seats but with the pre Boeing Sky Interior aircraft.

Greeting at the gate was warm and very professional.

Priority Boarding was working very well.

J usually is on that flight. Are you returning with the plane or staying in KGI for a look?

Cheers.

You should be able to post pics from the lounge this time as you are flying J.

Correct... My bad.. Teach me for rushing around like its a friday again.. Oh wait it is..!! :(

What is the rego of the aircraft? I had VH-VZW yesterday from DRW-PER-KGI, first time in ages I've been in one of the new ones.

:)

I just checked the Plane Finder app and your on VH-VZM. Currently doing 568 mph @ 37000ft. Just about to fly past Merredin.

:)

Thanks :) that was right VH-VZM. Nice aircraft and I did the return with her back to Perth.

I'm a QP anyway so got into the lounge regardless. The QP at Perth was full. The QP at Kalgoorlie is hilarious - just a bench, some seats in a tiny room, and from what I could see not even a bathroom (though may have missed it).

The crew were excellent on this flight. Warm, friendly and were happy to hear I was returning to achieve Gold.

I also wasn't the only status run aboard which I found interesting.

The flight out:

We pushed back at 12:00 so just 5 minutes behind schedule. Followed VH-EBM out to the runway and watched her rotate before we followed suit.

A smooth take off and a quick 45 minute run to Kalgoorlie.

First a drinks service and then a meal of a ham and vegetable salad and a warm bread roll. For something sweet, a berry cake was served.

Tea & coffee followed while we commenced our descent into Kalgoorlie.

I had about 20 mins on the ground and walked outside (to say I've actually been out of the airport) and then returned, re-screened and checked out the QP.

With about 30 seats and 50 miners just off night shift it was pretty full so I opted for a seat in the general boarding area and spoke with my fiancé until the return was called for boarding.

Crew were again superb and surprised yet happy to see me again.

We departed on time, took off towards the east and overflow the ENORMOUS open cut mine. I was shocked at how huge it was.

We then made a steep turn, headed west and ascended to cruising altitude.

The flight back was bumpy -- like a dirt road kind of bumpy.

Descent started about 30 mins out of Perth so most of the service was offered during descent.

The meal this time was more substantial. Seared barramundi served with green beans and a side of mashed sweet potato with a warm bread roll.

Wine and beer were offered but alas I had to drive on arrival so opted for Coca-Cola.

Tea and coffee again were offered.

We landed on time in Perth after a superb descent where we overflow Mundaring Weir, the quarry, Westfield Carousel and had a great view of Perth.

By 3pm I was back in the car, my first status run over and quite chugged at the knowledge that on Monday when I land in Melbourne I'd have qualified for SG with 1 hour to spare :)

Photos here are what I saw of Kalgoorlie from ground level :)

First status run....maybe a first JASA and TR all combined? Great stuff & good read:D

I my opinion, the most cost-effective rate of doing the status run will be buying the Jetstar Friday Frenzy cheap flights and then add the option of getting SC, if you have the extra time to do the day return flights!

From PER??

To get 80 SC in one hit (and make it there and back in an afternoon) it had to be QF Business.

Yes first JASA too - was good!

Also please excuse auto correct from using iPhone. "Chugged" was clearly the wrong word ;)

Hard way to earn SCs IMHO, 20000 QFF points can be had at times for $600 or less and that earns 140 SC without a double promo.

Final photos as promised.
