Hey everyone,

great to join such a terrific site!
However, I'm so confused and don't know where to start.

My partner and I are hoping to go to Thailand at some stage during the year and as I'm sure you all know, the flights are generally the most expensive part of any holiday.

Were wanting to fly from Coolangata (Gold Coast) and fly into somewhere in Thailand (where ever is the cheapest place to fly into. Sometime between late July to late October for 2-3 weeks.
We're Qantas FF members however we only have about 10k points so far.
If someone wants to take me under their wing and teach me the ways of gathering points, finding cheap flights and using them for flights, accomm, etc it would be greatly appreciated. In fact I'll grant you some great Karma :p

Hope to meet some great people as well :)

Welcome aboard!

If you're based on the GC, there's a gathering this Wednesday in Brisbane. Might meet some regulars and get some good tips too ;)

Thanks Sam.
Are the meets in the area a regular thing?
I'm a pretty shy and sometimes awkward guy, so don't know how I'd go, going on my own without knowing anyone. Hahaha.
Sounds like it would be great fun though. How do I find out details either way?

When you indicated OOL as your origin, I immediately thought of D7 (AirAsiaX) and TZ (Scoot) direct to their hubs in KUL/SIN and onwards to BKK (D7 does offer other destinations in Thailand). But if you wanted to fly QF, you will have to backtrack from OOL/BNE to SYD (which may not be such a bad idea for points and SC). In fact QF has a $889 fare to BKK (on sale until 29 April) but I didn't check if D7/TZ will be cheaper...

Welcome to AFF joshua.2204!

Travelling to Thailand the flights should be the cheapest part of the holiday. With Qantas now going to Europe via Dubai the flights to Asia are very cheap.

Thanks everyone for the help. :) Seems like everyone here is SO friendly. :)
Very much appreciated!
Still trying to get my head around how this all works, but hopefully with a bit of study, I should get a grasp of things eventually.
Unfortunately at this stage I don't travel much (due to time) and none of the cards I have a really accumulating FF points, so I'm weighing up my options on the best method of attack. Ie: How to accrue the most points between now and Sept/ Oct when I'm looking at going on the Thailand trip.
Any suggestions that don't involve massive amounts of travel, much outlay or several credit cards (I know that limits the options substantially) will be greatly appreciated. :)

Again, thanks for all the help thus far.
