Woohoo!!!! Just a little excited at finally reaching that magic 1000 SCs :D after our flights from two days ago credited this morning. Probably never likely to get there again, it was due to a combination of several O/S trips hubby and I took between us last year (something that's usually NOT in our budget LOL), family pooling and the current double SC offer that I was able to make it.

My grateful thanks to all on AFF for all their advice and information - as an infrequent self-funded traveller, I had no idea how the whole system worked and have picked up invaluable knowledge over the past couple of years from everyone here on how to get hubby and I to Gold (and stay there!) and now to get me over the line to Platinum. And a special mention to Velocity rep VFF, who has given sterling assistance on several occasions in following up on and getting missing SCs credited.

Thanks again everyone!!!! :)

Congrats!

As soon as your VFF profile officially changes to WP, ring up and allocate seat assign all your future bookings to row 3 ;)

LOL :)

I don't have any future bookings at the moment, but we're looking at another trip to the US next February, so I've got my eye on the hallowed Row 5!

Just hit platinum too. No hope of keeping it more than 12 months. Will delay signing up for Hilton top-tier and Hertz until I've got a use for them early next year. Not sure if I should sign up for Secure Sentinel thingo straight away. Could be good. Plan to burn the comp upgrades on flexi returns to PER (either BNE-PER direct for 2 pax, or OOL-MEL-PER for 1 pax depending if I can persuade partner to come along on a long weekend business trip in August).

I think you can upgrade on Saver now as well. You may not need to go flexi unless your chasing SC's

I received something saying you can upgrade savers with points, but Platinum comp upgrades remain for flexi's only, if I remember rightly.

Yeh, I think you are correct. I think I am mixing up with the new offer VA has with saver upgrades and points. Thnks

Congratulations Quokka77 and welcome to the first-and-probably-only-timers Platinum club LOL. Don't have a use for Hilton or Hertz at the moment, so won't be signing up with them yet and we're already members with Secure Sentinel so will see what the situation is when it comes up for renewal later this year, if I can use the complimentary membership instead. Have used 2 of the comp upgrades on flights at the end of April PER-MEL-PER flexis (just hoping and praying I don't get XFA or XFB, but knowing my luck ...) - am taking advantage of the targeted DSC offer and doing a status run to pool to hubby to put him over the line to requalify for Gold this year.

The other two comp upgrades might end up going to waste though - I don't usually buy flexis, as the cost out of (and into) Perth is ridiculously high. I wish we could use them to upgrade from Savers - even if you had to use 2 upgrades instead of one, it would be more worthwhile than having to let them expire. Maybe now that Virgin is allow upgrades from Savers, we may see a revamp that could allow Plats to do this in the future?

When you go platinum, do you get a new review date?

I ask because we need 70 points for platinum and will be travelling J to China on 2 weeks. Our current review date is end of May

Yes, your review date will change to the date you hit Platinum - your account is usually reviewed by Velocity and updated within a few days of you reaching the appropriate SC level. For example, my previous review date was in November, but reached the required 1000 SCs in March, so my new review date will be March 2015.
